France have been backed well ahead of this tournament. With home advantage on their side, they will be hoping that can tip the balance in their favour. They are the pre-tournament favourites alongside holders USA to win the crown this summer. What a night for South Korea. They are a big outsider for the tournament and they start in one of the most daunting games they could be in. Nerves are going to be high after the opening ceremony and then they have to face one of the tournament favourites. South Korea are not in form either and have gone W2 D1 L4 in their last seven matches. They are winless in three (D1 L2). Four years ago in Canada, they did make a splash in beating out Spain to get out of their group.
They were then stopped in the round of sixteen by France. Not seeing enough of them against top opposition, it’s hard to judge South Korea. But they are not even one of the strongest teams from the AFC. That is based on the last three editions of the Asian Cup where they have taken a third-place finish in each. South Korea only qualified for the 2019 Women’s World Cup via a playoff match against the Philippines. They may struggle to make an impact.
