French Open Betting 2017 Women – Winner Odds & Predictions

Draw to favour Svitolina for French Open success?

Tennis Betting

With no Serena Williams at the French Open this year and with the demise of world number one Angelique Kerber who set an unwanted record of being the first top seed ever to crash out of the tournament in the first round (Open era),he French Open Betting 2017 is wide open now. Kerber was taken out by Ekaterina Makarova in a real first round shock but that is just indicative of how unpredictable the draw for the women is likely to end up this year. Last year we saw Spain’s Garbine Muguruza land her first ever Grand Slam title when she beat out Serena Williams in a thrilling final. Will she be able to defend her title?

She is one of the front runners now with the tournament underway and it is Romanian Simona Halep who is carrying the pressure of being the favourite to land the title. It’s been a bit of a stagnant couple of years for her and she is still searching for that elusive first Grand Slam title. Will she make it through this time around to make that breakthrough or will the draw, which still boasts the big threats of the likes of Venus Williams and Johanna Konta, just continue to throw up surprises? The draw has already had a bright moment with Petra Kvitova in her first match back after her stabbing, winning through.

French Open Betting Draw

With top seed Angelique Kerber gone, the top half of the draw has opened up nicely for Sam Stosur and Petra Kvitova who now head up that top quarter really. You have Caroline Wozniacki and Kiki Bertens floating around in there as well, and of course, it will be interesting to see how far Ekaterina Makarova goes after taking down Kerber. As the draw is lined up, Stosur and Kvitova could meet up in an epic third round battle so there’s no reason why Makarova couldn’t find herself in the fourth round against one of them. Tough to call a winner in this one, but the experience of clay expert Stosur is a little appealing.
Player to win first quarter odds
Svetlana Kuznetsova 4/1, Kiki Bertens 11/2, Sam Stosur 11/2, Petra Kvitova 5/1, Caroline Wozniacki 8/1, Ekaterina Makarova 8/1, bar 10/1

The second quarter is going to be a real battle. Reigning champion Garbine Muguruza heads up the quarter as the fourth seed and there should be nothing stopping her booking a place in the fourth round. There it gets tough as France’s own Kristina Mladenovic, who is a player who blows very hot and cold, could be there as an unpredictable opponent against her. Then on the opposite side of the quarter you have veteran Ventus Williams, Timea Bacsinszky who is always capable of a good run and sixth seed Dominika Cibulkova who is one of those players that the other top players never want to meet. We would be alright running with Muguruza if it wasn’t for the presence of Mladenovic, as the French Number One looks slightly better value.
Player to win the second quarter
Garbine Muguruza 3/1, Kristina Mladenovic 9/2, Venus Williams 6/1, Dominika Cibulkova 6/1, Timea Bacsinszky 8/1, bar 12/1

The Third quarter is right there for Simona Halep to take advantage of. The third seed has received a fantastic draw for herself and she can be projected through to the fourth round easily. She may run into clay expert Carla Suarez Navarro there, but the money would be on Halep. In the other half of the quarter there is Elina Svitolina, the fifth seed for the French Open 208 floating around there and there is a great opportunity for her to make some quiet progress through the draw, but if Halep really wants a solid chance of getting a Grand Slam, the draw is wide open for her in her quarter.
Player to win the third quarter
Simona Halep 11/4, Elina Svitolina 4/1, bar 14/1

Britain’s big hope, Johanna Konta is in the fourth quarter and going off a seventh see for the draw. Her side of the quarter isn’t all that bad really. There could be a tricky third round clash against spunky French player Caroline Garcia, but you would expect Konta to really be a look for a quarter-final berth in her draw. Karolina Pliskova, the number two seed would be the most likely player to meet her in that quarter-final and that would be a cracker between two very intelligent players who never give up. We don’t see a lot of other threat from the fourth quarter other that Agnieszka Radwanska, who always seems to fall short in Grand Slams and Anastasia Pavlyukova who isn’t at the level of either Plisova or Konta.
Player to win the fourth quarter
Karolina Pliskova 7/2, Johanna Konta 11/2, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 9/2, Agnieszka Radwanska 8/1, Barbora Strycova 12/1, Caroline Garcia 14/1, bar 25/1

Main Contenders in Women’s French Open Draw

Simona Halep 5/1
The 25-year-old is still chasing her first Grand Slam but she does carry some form into Roland Garros. She hit the quarter-finals of Miami where she lost out to Johanna Konta, and then ran to one semi-final and two final finished in her three clay court tournaments this year, winning in Madrid against Kristina Mladenovic and went up a set up in the final of Rome before falling to a great comeback from Elina Svitolina. There were concerns about Halep and her ankle problem ahead of the French Open but she seems to be running well. This is a big chance for her, especially with a comfortable looking draw ahead.

Elina Svitolina 7/1
The Ukraine player is running with some hot form at the moment with two clay titles going into Roland Garros this season. She took the Istanbul title, and then went way bigger with a tremendous title in Rome in her final build-up to the French Open, getting past Pliskova, Muguruza and Halep to get her hands on the title (although Muguruza retired against her in the semi’s). But that was no mean feat and she has a great looking draw and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her in the quarter-final because of that.

Garbine Muguruza 9/1
Had to retire from the Rome semifinals before getting to the French Open. That’s always a bit of a concern but she opened her title defence comfortably enough anyway. With a quarter-final at the Australian Open and a quarter final at Indian Wells (losing to Pliskova) her only bright points of the season, she was really needing that run at Rome to propel her towards form for the French Open, but it ended with the recipient in the semi against Elina Svitolina (who she had beaten at Indian Wells this season). In the French Open Betting 2017 at Bet365, you have Muguruza, Pliskova, Svitolina and Mladenovic in the leading pack and it’s hard to separate them.

Karolina Pliskova 14/1
Pliskova hasn’t quite been carrying the kind of clay form that you would really want to see from her. She was on fire through the hard court swing of the early season but has found the going tougher. She lost out to Svitolina in the quarterfinals of Rome in her final warm up and that may just raise some concerns over backing her. She can beat anyone ahead of her in the betting on her day, but is she going to find enough of them on the clay at Roland Garros this year?

Kristina Mladenovic 16/1
The French number one has been raising her stock very well this year. She has always been such a promising player, particularly on clay, but has failed to deliver before. Things look to be changing a bit for her with back to back clay finals posted before crashing out in the first round in Rome. that will have given her a nice rest after a very busy period and although she lost both of her clay finals in Stuttgart and Barcelona, she beat the likes of Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber, Suarez Navarro and Svetlana Kuznetsova to reach those finals.

Venus Williams 25/1
After her epic run to the Australian Open Final, the semi-finals of Miami and most recently the quarter finals of Rome, you can’t write off the veteran. She has lost to Johanna Konta and Garbine Muguruza along with a second round defeat to Laura Siegemund in Charleston which was a major upset. The defeats she has suffered probably hints that there’s not enough there for her to win this on the most gruelling surface of all.

Johanna Konta 25/1
Konta on the other hand who is a great price of 25/1 at Bet365 in French Open 2017 betting is going to have some appeal. She’s not the most comfortable on clay and that can be seen in her results this year. Her solid run to the Australian Open quarter-finals and her momentous title in Miami this year shows what she can do. The draw isn’t bad for her either with Karolina Pliskova not running at her best at the moment. There is a window of opportunity for Konta here but when it’s all summed up, she would have to be backed each way.

Predictions

We would side Elina Svitolina making a run to the title this year at the French Open. She has a very favourable draw and while she could meet Simona Halep in the quarter finals, that’s a game she can win because Halep will be feeling the heavy pressure of being favourite there. Sam Stosur is a heavily priced underdog who has the experience to come through that open first quarter and our other prediction will be running with Mladenovic to win the second quarter.
