Cottagers back to winning ways

Fulham v Wigan Athletic Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 27th September 19.45pm

Fulham and Wigan Athletic meet in the EFL Championship at Craven Cottage on Friday night. Despite being one of the favourites for promotion, the Cottagers have failed to win any of their last four in the Championship. As for the Latics, they picked up their first win since the opening weekend last time out. As expected, Scott Parker’s troops are the odds-on favourites in this one, with the bookies pricing the hosts at 8/15.

Fulham News and Form – First league win in five for the Cottagers?

After starting their season with a shock 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Barnsley, Fulham struck back with three wins on the spin. The Cottagers were outstanding during that period, picking up victories over Blackburn Rovers (2-0), Huddersfield Town (2-1) and Millwall (4-0).

Since then, however, Fulham have failed to win any of their last five in all competitions, losing two and drawing three. After losing 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest, the Whites have drawn each of their last three in the Championship, all 1-1.

Last Saturday, Parker’s men claimed a 1-1 draw with Garry Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Tom Cairney’s goal just before half time gave Fulham a deserved lead in Sheffield. Unfortunately for them, Atdhe Nuhui equalised at the death to rescue a point for the Owls.

Despite their indifferent form, Fulham remain one of the promotion favourites in this season’s Championship. Ahead of this Friday’s clash with Wigan, the Cottagers are priced at 13/2 to win the title and 7/5 for promotion. Can they get back on track with victory at the Cottage on Friday night?

Wigan Athletic News and Form – Can Cook’s boys get a positive result in the capital?

Wigan Athletic started their season like a house on fire, beating Cardiff City 3-2 in a thriller at the DW Stadium. However, they went on to take just two points from their following six. The Latics fell to successive defeats to Preston North End, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers before drawing with Barnsley and Hull City.

Since losing 3-1 to QPR at Loftus Road a month back, Wigan have gone three Championship matches unbeaten. Last Saturday, Paul Cook’s boys picked up an impressive home win over Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic. Cheyenne Dunkley was the hero at the DW Stadium, netting a brace in the 2-0 triumph.

Wigan currently sit in 19th place in the second tier having won two, drawn two and lost four so far. Meanwhile, the club from Greater Manchester have scored eight and shipped 13. Wigan survived comfortably in the end last season, which they will be hoping to replicate this time around.

Friday’s trip to Craven Cottage will certainly be a tough test for Cook’s Wigan. However, the Tics will be buoyed by last weekend’s win over Charlton, and they will be hoping to cause Fulham problems in the west London.

Fulham v Wigan Athletic Predictions

Fulham win: The Cottagers looked unstoppable when they thumped Millwall 4-0 to seal a third win in a row in August. However, Parker’s men have not won since, losing two and drawing three of their last five in all competitions. Because of that, the London side could do with all three points from this one. Fulham should see off Wigan at the Cottage on Friday, so have a punt on the hosts to win -1 at 13/10.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the joint leading marksman in the Championship to this point, netting an impressive five goals so far. Meanwhile, the Serbia international has scored eight times in ten appearances for club and country so far this term. Mitrovic is available at the generous price of 10/3 to open the scoring on Friday.
