Fulham News and Form – Can the Cottagers take out Villa?

Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham will probably be relishing this fixture. This is the second time this season that they will have faced Premier League opposition. The Cottagers lost at home against Southampton in the EFL Cup back in August, but will probably be sending out a stronger line up for this contest. Fulham have taken a win in four of their last six home games in all competitions and they have only failed to score in one of their last eleven at Craven Cottage. They recently produced a superb home success over Championship leaders Leeds in league action.

In two of the last three seasons, they have faced a home game against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup. Fulham lost those fixtures against Spurs and Southampton. Last season they bowed out at the third round stage against Oldham. It leaves them with just one victory in their last seven home games in the competition, which is obviously nothing to shout about. But they have shaped up pretty well on home soil in this campaign and in taking on an Aston Villa side which has shown to be really short of quality at the back, Fulham should be in this tie.

Aston Villa News and Form – Can Villa survive London trip?

The Villains are in a big fight to sustain their Premier League stats this season. The problem with them hasn’t been putting the ball in the back of the net, it has been keeping it out. Only two sides have conceded more Premier League goals than the Villains have done this season. How will they now fare against a Championship attack? Aston Villa have lost five of their last seven road games (W1 D1), which were all in the Premier League.

They have produced a bit of cup form in the EFL Cup this season, posting away wins at Crewe and Brighton, before taking home wins over Wolves and then a Liverpool youth side. The away form of Villa in the FA Cup, however, needs to be put under the microscope. They have taken a D1 L4 record in their last five away games in the competition, conceding at least two goals in each of those four defeats in the sequence. Home and away combined, Aston Villa have only managed one success in their last seven FA Cup fixtures and last season they bowed out in the third round against Championship side Swansea.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Predictions

Fulham to win: Fulham are well worth a poke in this one. The home crowd at Craven Cottage could really push them towards victory here. They have had a decent season on home turf and with Villa having a really porous defence, the home win appeals.
