In the last two editions of the U21 Championships, Germany have come up against Denmark. They took 3-0 wins over them in both of those meetings. Their win over Denmark in the 2017 edition was crucial because it saw them grab second place in the group behind Italy. From there Germany would go on to beat England in a penalty shootout in the quarter-final, before knocking down Spain 1-0 in the final. Germany are the top-ranked team in Europe at this level.

For third straight edition, Denmark are in the U21 Championship Finals. They collected a group win back in 2015 (which was over Germany) but they then lost in the semifinals. Two years ago Denmark bowed out at the group stage, taking a W1 L2 record from that campaign. So that leaves Denmark with a W4 D2 L6 record in their last twelve group stage games at the tournament.
In reaching these finals, they produced a W7 D2 L1 record from their qualification campaign. They powered their way to the end going unbeaten in their final five.
