Die Mannschaft to end Italian resistance at Euros

Germany v Italy Euro 2016

Germany v Italy Betting Preview – Euro 2016, 2nd July

Germany looked more like themselves as they took a sublimely comfortable round of sixteen victory over Slovakia. They were fluent, on point and looking very, very sharp. They will clearly need to be their vest best when they go up against Italy on Saturday. The Azzurri have produced some highly impressive displays at the tournament, including knocking out Spain in the round of sixteen. There’s been just the one goal conceded from Italy so far in the tournament and that was from the penalty spot. They’ll test the Germans.

Germany v Italy Betting Tips

What a fantastic looking set up. Germany came to life in the last round and they take on the Italians who have been so defensively and tactically impressive during the tournament. Spain were expected to be lining up against Germany here but instead Die Mannschaft get a shot against the brilliantly organised Italians. This could be a fantastic spectacle. Germany looked below their usual high standards in the group stage, but still won the group. But then you saw a switch in their whole approach and mentality as soon as the knockout stage started, as they crushed Slovakia 3-0, easily opening up their defensive-minded opponents. That is Germany in tournament mode, when they just produced a constant flow of attacking football. It won’t be as easy against the Italians of course, but if that’s the Germany which shows up, they will get chances. Under 2.5 goals on the game is trading at 4/9.

While the Italians are brilliant at the back, let’s not forget that Germany have not conceded a single goal at the tournament yet. There were big questions about their defence heading to the Finals, which have been firmly answered. Germany are 11/10 to bank a clean sheet in this one over 90 minutes. You have Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez at 2/1 in the anytime goalscorer market, with Gomez having netted two in the tournament and Muller still remarkably looking for his first. Germany faced Italy in a friendly earlier this year and they crushed the Azzurri 4-1. But while they can obviously take some positives from that, that snapped a six match winless streak that they were on against Italy (including the Euro 2012 semi final) and over the last seven have just a W1 D2 L4 record against the Italians. Both teams have scored in each of the last four meetings and backing both to net on Saturday is a quote of 6/5. A 1-1 or a 0-0 correct score are both 5/1 options, but there have been two 1-1 draws in the last four clashes.

Italy are hungry for this title, you can see it in their team spirit and commitment out on the pitch. They are 2/1 to pick up a clean sheet over the 90 minutes and they have shipped just the one goal at the tournament so far, that being when they put out an understrength side against Ireland in the group stage and shipped a penalty. Other than that, it has been five clean sheets in their last six games and boss Antonio Conte has Italy on top of their game at the moment. You can see the game plan, albeit a defensive one, but every players has a specific job whether they are in high pressing mode or are sitting back. That’s a huge strength and they look imperious. They will give Germany a really hard time in breaking them down. So while the defensive strengths of Italy are there, if they were to concede in this one, you would have some concerns about packing enough punch to chase the game, especially risking getting caught on the break. Graziano Pelle is an 11/4 shot in the anytime goalscorer market.

Germany v Italy Predictions

Without Germany’s performance against Slovakia, Italy would have been tipped here, but we are going with Die Mannschaft. Germany looked to have stepped up into top gear and if they turn up and play that way, they will have too much for Italy. Italy’s game plan is to defend and hit on the break, but Germany will be savvy to that and may well draw them out. Germany to win.
