Germany to set the record straight against Slovakia

Germany v Slovakia Euro 2016

Germany v Slovakia Betting Preview – Euro 2016, 26th June

It is fair to say that Germany haven’t clicked as an offensive unit. But going into the tournament, there were bigger concerns about their defensive frailties. Those questions have been answered with three clean sheets on the bounce and despite having lost a pre-tournament friendly against Slovakia, the Germans are being heavily backed to win this. Slovakia do a lot of running games but are likely to do little else in this one than sit back and hope for scraps on the break. It’s going to be hard to post a tournament win over the Germans.

Germany v Slovakia Betting Tips

Germany won Group C as they were expected to do from the outset. It wasn’t all be plain sailing from them though as the Ukraine made them work really hard in their opener and then Poland missed some big chances to beat Die Mannschaft. Still, Germany survived unscathed and topped the group and they haven’t conceded a goal yet. Going into the tournament there were question marks about their defence, but they seem to have addressed them for the large part for now, even if they have had some luck along the way. The real test will be when they meet the better sides, because they did give up a lot of chances against Poland and could easily have lost. So there has been no point where Germany have been in top gear so far at Euro 2016 and that just makes them more dangerous because they are capable of more. There will be a lot of talk about their 3-1 loss against Slovakia as part of their Euro 2016 warm ups.

However, dismiss that, because tournament football is where it counts and where Germany come to life. While their defense should take a pat on the back, their forwards haven’t delivered as much as they were expected to. Three more games and still no European Championship goal for Thomas Muller, who looks as if he is trying to hard to make up for the fact that he has no genuine goalscoring partner. Mario Goetze’s not a striker and Mario Gomez has a lot of work to prove that he can carry the game. Muller and Gomez are 5/4 options to score against Slovakia, with Goetze out at 7/4. Germany are a price of 10/11 to go out and win this one to nil and they can also be backed at a quote of 1/2 to take a clean sheet across the 90 minutes. There is a price of 4/7 on the game going under 2.5 goals.

Over the last four meetings between these two nations, the honours actually stand even at two wins each. So Germany haven’t had it all their own way from their five previous games against Slovakia, but they lead the head to head narrowly with a 3-2 advantage. Slovakia haven’t looked great side, they have scrapped and played off scraps most of the way. They lost their opener against Wales, beat a very poor Russian side and then sat eleven men behind the ball for 90 minutes in a draw against England. They have lost just one of their last eight games in a W3 D4 L1 record, so that’s not too bad. There’s not a lot of offensive outfit though from them (two goals in their last four games total) and Marek Hamsik is a big 7/1 price in the anytime goalscorer market for them. That having been said, both teams have scored in each of the last three games between these two but even that is a long 7/4 punt.

Germany v Slovakia Predictions

Slovakia are a hit and miss side and have lost just one of their last eleven games. However, Germany look like they are going to click sooner rather than later and the players to do just that. Germany are likely to gain a lot of possession in this one and their pressure will probably tell at the end of the day. It’s worth pushing for the Germans to win this to nil as they have started picking up clean sheets again.
