Germany News and Form – Will Germany beat Northern Ireland?

The Germans cruised to a 4-0 home success over Belarus on the weekend to guarantee a spot at Euro 2020. They will go into this final fixture top of the pile, leading the Netherlands by two points. Germany have been scoring well in action this year, and have netted at least two goals in each of their last eight fixtures both competitive and friendly combined. So they are shaping up very well and the only reverse in this campaign happened on home soil against the Netherlands.

It is a tally of 24 goals that Germany have taken in their seven qualifiers so far so that scoring threat will naturally pose Northern Ireland problem. Fourteen goals in three home games is what the Germans have delivered in this group. That home defeat against the Netherlands is Germany’s only loss on home soil since the end of last year’s World Cup, part of a W4 D4 L1 record taken in that sequence. Germany have recorded only two wins in their last six home games (competitive and friendly)

Northern Ireland News and Form – Can the Irish win in Germany?

Northern Ireland had a job to do at home against the Netherlands on the weekend and that was to win. That was the only way their slim qualification hopes of reaching Euro 2020 automatically stayed alive. They couldn’t get the job done, settling for a 0-0 draw. The big moment in the game was a penalty miss in the first half by captain Steven Davis. So that means Northern Ireland will be going to the playoffs. While there is nothing at stake in this game, a win over one of the best teams in the world would give a lift of confidence.

The Irish have taken a win in three of their last four away games (L1) and on the road in their Euro 2020 qualification group, have beaten Estonia and Belarus, while losing 3-1 in the Netherlands. Northern Ireland have lost only two of their last eight European Championship away qualifiers (W5 D1 L2) which is not a bad record at all. It’s just hard to see them matching Germany for scoring power, having only netted 8 goals in 7 group games.

Germany vs Northern Ireland Predictions

Germany to win: A home win will probably play out in this one. The Irish have to start thinking about the playoff route and getting a morale-boosting win here isn’t too likely to happen. Germany are strong in front of goal and Northern Ireland will struggle to match that. Home win to nil.
