Germany Women News and Form

Germany will be expecting a deep run at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. They were fourth four years ago, losing the bronze medal match against England. But still, that was progress because in the 2011 event they had been eliminated in the quarterfinals. Germany do have plenty of reason to be confident as they are the reigning Olympic Champions and there are players from that success in this current World Cup squad. So there’s been good continuity from them. They have had a change of manager since the Olympics though, a fairly recent one at that.

Germany have their star power of course, one of the main ones being Alexandra Popp who they will look to for goals. They have Dzensifer Marozsan in the middle of the park as well and she is one of the best midfielders in the women’s game. If she brings it, then the further Germany are likely to go in this tournament. Germany have won all but one of their last six games and just back in February played France in Germany and picked up a win. They also beat Sweden after that. So they have beaten stronger opposition this year. Germany have netted exactly two goals in each of their last three games played.

Key-Facts – Germany Women v China Women

  • Germany have won five of their last six games
  • The Germans have beaten tournament favourites France this year
  • China have lost their last four games

China News and Form

China topped their qualification group to reach the World Cup finals this summer. It was a straightforward qualification campaign from them, China winning all three of their fixtures to win through. Since then they have pushed themselves against stronger opposition, but naturally having stepped away from the AFC they have found the going a little bit tougher. Their key action this year happened in the Algarve Cup back in March.

In the Algarve Cup, China face Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. From their three games at the tournament, China collected a D1 L2 record. They took on one of the favourites for this summer’s tournament, France in an international friendly as their last warm up game ahead of the tournament. China lost that game 2-1.

China have lost each of their last four games, but they did scoring in three of those four. Their star power is in PSG midfielder Wang Shuang and they need a big performances from her. Unless something goes drastically wrong with Germany’s plans, China will be taking on Spain for the second automatic qualification spot from this group.have

Germany Women v China Women Predictions

Germany to win: Even though they went up against stiff opposition, China didn’t embarrass themselves at the Algarve Cup this season. But still, they are probably going to come up short against the powerful threat that the Germans will bring to proceedings.
