Germany rocked their way to three wins from three in the group stage of this World Cup. They did only manage 1-0 wins over both China and Spain to open with. But then they opened up a little bit more with a 4-0 win over South Africa in their final match in the group. So the German team have yet to concede a goal at the tournament and that is likely to be a big feature of their title challenge. The group draw that Nigeria were handed for the 2019 World Cup was never going to make things easy for them. They were up in Group A alongside France, Norway and South Korea. They picked up a heavy 3-0 defeat against Norway in their opener, and then came their bright moment as they beat South Korea. They looked to be heading for a point in their final group stage game against France. Nigeria put in a really gallant effort against the hosts, but eventually ended up losing 1-0 late on to a penalty.
France had missed the initial spot kick, captain Wendie Renard hitting the post. But it was ordered to be retaken because the Nigeria keeper was off her line. Renard buried the retake. It is three defeats in their last four games now for Nigeria and their only two wins in their last six games played have happened against Thailand and Korea Republic.
