Germany Women v Sweden Women Betting Tips – Women’s World Cup, 29th June 5.30pm

There actually was not a lot on show from Sweden in their round of sixteen tie against Canada. The Swedes were happy to just sit back and just wait for a chance on the break. They got and took a 1-0 win in a game which they were second best until they got their second-half strike. Germany powered their way past Nigeria to book their place in the final eight. Germany Women News and Form

Germany won all three games in the group stage without conceding. They have averaged over two goals per game in the tournament with their victories over China, Spain and South Africa. The only time they looked really troubled was when they conceded a wealth of possession to Spain, but they still managed to get the win. They did look to be holding something back in the group stage it has to be said. Maybe they were just trying to time themselves and get to peak at the right time in the knockout. Germany were actually quite reserved in their opening games, before thumping South Africa 4-0.

In the round of sixteen, their reward for topping their group was a fixture against Nigeria. The Africans had been one of the best third-placed finishers. Germany took a 3-0 win so there’s still no goal conceded by them. Sara Dabrtiz is their top scorer with a three-goal haul with Alexandra Popp on two. The Germans have remained undefeated in 2019, posting a W7 D1 record in their eight games played so far. They are currently on a five-match winning streak, conceding in only two of their last nine.

Because they don’t look to have the attacking threat of the likes of France and the USA, their defensive output is going to be huge for them in getting close to the title. But still, Germany have scored at least two goals in five of their last seven games now. Germany has a very good crop of young players, and they are the reigning Olympic Champions, with some of their medallists from that, taking part in the World Cup. That’s good continuity. They are looking for their third World Cup title to add to their 2003 and 2007 back to back successes.

Sweden Women News and Form

It is actually hard to read what Sweden are up to. They needed late goals to beat Chile in their opening fixture. Then in a 5-1 win over Thailand, they missed loads of chances to run up a bigger score. Against the USA in their final group stage match, the Swedes made calculated changes to their starting lineup, basically sending out a weakened side. They were happy to play for second place in the group instead of pushing for the group win. The finishing position that they took left them going down to the easier bottom half of the draw.

They were up against Canada in the round of sixteen in a fairly even contest. But it was Canada who just shaded things in terms of intent. Sweden were happy to stay tight and hit on the break. Stina Balckstenius got their goal in the 55th minute, and Sweden did have a burst of action where they stepped on the gas trying to kill the game off. But that second goal didn’t come and they had to go back into their shell.

So quite what Sweden’s potential is, is a mystery. They may have done a brilliant tactical job of playing for second place in their group and trying to conserve as much as possible for these tougher challenges. In 2019 Sweden are W6 D2 L3 in their eleven games. They have been better recently with their form, winning five of their last six played. In their last six games, they have taken four clean sheets as well. Sweden have a good physical side to them and are a hard-working side. They hold an overall head to head record of W7 D0 L19 against Germany.
