Gerrard takes heavy backing in Next Rangers Manager betting market

Former Liveprool star reportedly in Ibrox talks

A surprise name has cropped up on the list of contenders to be the next Rangers manager. That is former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard who is currently working with Liverpool’s U18s. Current Rangers boss Graeme Murty is under a bit of pressure and even though he was only put into the Ibrox hot seat until the end of the season to replace Pedro Caixinha, it doesn’t look as if he has done enough to be given the job on a permanent basis.

Online betting site BetVictor suspended betting on Gerrard becoming the next Rangers manager this week. It was confirmed during the week that Gerrard was in talks with the Scottish club to take over next season and that naturally sent punters into action getting wagers down on him taking over the position. Gerrard was recently seen at Ibrox for Rangers’ 2-3 defeat against Celtic in the recent Old Firm derby.

BetVictor did reopen the market and Gerrard can be backed at 1/3 odds* (betting odds taken on April 26th, 2018 at 5:47 p.m.) to be the Next Rangers manager. Other names on the list are Neil Warnock, Graham Potter and Frank de Boer.

After another defeat by Celtic, a heavy 4-0 loss in the Scottish Cup semi-final, there were Rangers’ fan protests in their next league match. There has also been reports of dressing room bust-ups between Murty and some players, with Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller both finding themselves suspended. Rangers will be facing Celtic again this weekend as they travel to Celtic Park, their great rivals having the chance to win the league title with a success in that game.
