A Star is Born, which is a remake of a 1937 move is a musical romantic drama that is the clear front-runner in this category. The movie has actually received a total of five nominations at the 2019 Golden Globes including producer and director Bradley Cooper for Best Performance in a Motion Picture. Contender BlackKKlansman, a biographical comedy moved about Ron Stallworth directed by Spike Lee has a total of four nominations at the Golden Globes.

The Green Book, which is a comedy based on a true friendship in the Deep South. It is about New York City bouncer Frank Vallelonga who becomes the driver of famous pianists Don Shirley, who needs Vallelonga to keep him out of trouble on an eight-week concert tour. The title comes from the Green Book, which was published in the mid-20th century to serve as a guidebook for African-Americans through the segregated South. Its main challenger is the historical comedy-drama the Favourite.

There is a good strong British-made contender in the best TV series category. That is Killing Eve which is about MI5 office Ever Polastri who becomes obsessed with assassin Villanelle who she is charged with tracking down. Homecoming, based off of a podcast, is a psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts who starts to unravel mysteries about soldiers being helped with their transition back to civilian life.

Best Actor – Drama

Bradley Cooper 4/11
Rami Malek 9/4
Willem Dafoe 12/1
Lucas Hedges 20/1

This is always a popular category and there is a clear frontrunner for the accolade. That is Bradley Cooper for his role in A Star Is Born. This one looks a bit of a foregone conclusion with Rami Malek, who portrayed Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody a distant second.

Best Actress – Drama

Lady Gaga 1/3
Glenn Close 11/4
Nicole Kidman 14/1
Rosamund Pike 18/1

Again this could be all about A Star Is Born. Lady Gaga stars as Ally Maine in the picture and it is that performance which put her at the head of the market to be the Best Actress. Looking at the short price on her, that’s a pretty strong indicator considering she is going up against legends in Glenn Close (for The Wife) and Nicole Kidman (The Destroyer).

Best Actor – Musical or Comedy

Christian Bale 8/11
Viggo Mortensen 6/4
Robert Redford 8/1
Lin Manuel Miranda 1/1
John C Reilly 18/1
* (betting odds taken from bet365 on January 2nd, 2019 at 1:48 pm)

This looks to be one for the closer markets at the 2019 Golden Globes. Bale has already drawn huge praise for his depiction for former US Vice President Dick Cheney and given that Vice has received more nominations than any other movie for the award ceremony does give him a strong chance. But Viggo Mortensen who plays the bodyguard/diver in The Green Book is right there and trading strongly. It’s unlikely to be anyone other than one of those.

Best Actress – Musical or Comedy

Olivia Colman 4/6
Emily Blunt 6/4
Charlize Theron 12/1
Constance Wu 12/1
Elsie Fisher 14/1
* (betting odds taken from bet365 on January 2nd, 2019 at 1:48 pm)

English Actress Olivia Colman could be bringing home the award in this one for her depiction of Queen Anne in The Favourite. She actually won the Best Supporting Actress Award for The Night Manager back in 2017 at the Golden Globes. In accordance with the odds in the market here nearest challenger is English-American actress Emily Blunt for her big performance in Mary Poppins (as Mary Poppins).
