Happy Valley 3.50 Racing Tips and Betting – April 8 2020

Gentle could Breeze past opposition back over best trip

Horse Racing Betting

After a short sabbatical, racing returns to Happy Valley with Sha Tin having taken the burden of providing racing action in Hong Kong over the past couple of weeks.

Located in the Wan Chai district, Happy Valley has had a race track since 1845. It’s been a traditional Wednesday night out for Hong Kong residents for decades but there are still restrictions in place in the Special Administrative region and access is at present restricted to stable staff and officials.

As is the norm under Hong Kong Jockey Club rules when there isn’t a Group race on the card, the pick of the handicaps is the last race on the card with the Hing Man Handicap, a Class 2 contest, being this Wednesday’s feature.

Class will need further improvement to defy outside draw

This is Class has won four of his last 10 starts, including his last two at Happy Valley, and gets on really well with today’s rider C Y Ho. His good recent form has been over 6f but he’s got plenty of gate speed and is well worth a step up in grade. The five-year-old is a best 9/2 with Paddy Power, though poorly drawn.

Record holder will need to be back to his best

Stronger set the 5f track record the last time he raced at Happy Valley. The John Moore-trained three-year-old will have to produce a similar effort to win the Hing Man Handicap at the city track this Wednesday and he is only a best 11/4. He was below par last time at Sha Tin but Hong Kong champion Zac Purton rides again and barrier four won’t be an inconvenience.

Bet may enjoy fitness advantage

Karis Teetan rides Hong Kong Bet out of barrier six and his mount is best at Happy Valley. Twice a course and distance winner last year, he will lack nothing in fitness whereas most of his rivals have had least a month off and can be backed at 9/2.

Well-drawn Gentle Breeze can blow hot on favourite track

GENTLE BREEZE (11/2 with Betvictor) has the inside draw so won’t have to work as hard as some around the turn. A five-times winner over 5f at Happy Valley, the five-year-old has raced over 6f since taking a tow and easing past last week’s Sha Tin winner Victoriam in December. He is still 9lb higher but the handicapper shouldn’t take it for granted that he’s in charge.
