The World's End the one to beat at Haydock

Horse Racing Betting

This race from Haydock is part of ITV’s live coverage on Saturday. This is the Rendlesham Hurdle (Grade 2) which is a long 3m trip for the competitors.

It’s a class 1 run with six starters going off. There has been a clear favourite trading for the 2020 Rendlesham Hurdle and that is The World’s End. Will he deliver?

Will The World’s End delivery as favourite?

There is a form from The World’s End who collected a victory in the 3m Group 1 Marsh Hurdle at Ascot in December (the Long Walk Hurdle). That’s a pretty sound footing for him and in it, The World’s End collected a win by almost three lengths over L’Ami Serge.

He put in a very strong finish in heavy going and looked to have plenty in the tank. With a win at Wetherby also under his belt this season, for the second race going he lines up as a favourite.

He is a short 5/4 option for this Haydock affair* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 14th, 2020 at 15:14). Punters may have a hard time opposing him for the win in this one, despite going at top weight for the fixture.

Can Emitom get back into form?

Emitom’s career started with a serious bang, winning his first five races. Then on his step up to class 1 for the first time in April last year he took a good second place at Aintree behind Champion in a 3m 149y trip.

But his last run didn’t go too well. He returned to action on New Year’s Day 2020 and was last of six at Cheltenham. Maybe it was the break, maybe the Cheltenham trip was just to sharpen him up.

Can he deliver on the promise that his novice season showed? If he gets it right, he could be an interesting proposition at 3/1* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 14th, 2020 at 15:14)

West Approach

At 4/1 for the contest, West Approach is worth a glance* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 14th, 2020 at 15:14). Trained by Colin Tizzard he pulled up on his last trip which was at the Welsh National just after Christmas. The thing about West Approach is that when he puts it together, he is a fierce competitor.

He won at Cheltenham in November and then after unseating his rider at Newbury later in the month, he went well again back at Prestbury Park. There will be question marks over whether or not he can deliver outside of Cheltenham or not. He has the distance and stamina in him for sure.

The rest of the runner

One Night In Milan took on a 3m trip at Musselburgh for his last contest and was third there. He is a solid enough runner but he always seems to be a better fit around the two and a half-mile distance.

Clyne was a third-place finisher in his last race as well. The 10-year-old was out in a 2m 4f effort at Uttoxeter and doesn’t look to have enough about him to take down this kind of company.

Donna’s Diamond is the outsider but is a distance winner. On his last trip from a mark of 33/1, he was heavily beaten coming home 5th of 7 and that was over course and distance in a Grade 2 Hurdle. That was, however, in February 2019.

Predictions & Tips

There should rightly be some appeal in this one on The World’s End. He went so well in the Long Walk that he can’t be ignored for this race. Even with the extra weight, he looks to have enough power and stamina to hold himself in this company

Emitom just looks to be a little bit short at the moment and therefore the other option in the field would be West Approach who scrapped out a good win over L’Ami Serge at Ascot in December.
