Hibernian v Rangers Odds and Preview – Scottish Premiership Football March 8

Gers can edge a hard-fought encounter at Easter Road

Football Betting

The fans of both Hibernian and Rangers have been embroiled in controversy lately so a fiery encounter could be on the cards at Easter Raod this Friday.

Police Scotland, the Scottish government and football authorities are debate issues including coin throwing and sectarianism around Scotland’s stadiums and tougher action is likely to be taken in the future should off-the-field incidents continue to upstage the action on the pitch.

Hibernian Form

Is Paul Heckingbottom’s honeymoon period over following last weekend’s Scottish Cup defeat by Celtic? Hibs are back in the top six after three consecutive wins in the Premiership, however, and the former Barnsley and Leeds coach is hoping to move on quickly from that cup defeat. He wants his players to make better use of possession when they have it but does have an inside track on one of Rangers’ danger men, Ryan Kent, having coached him when at Barnsley. Ryan Gauld is back in training at Easter Road following a hamstring injury but this game will come too soon for the former Dundee United midfielder so Heckingbottom will probably have to rely on the same group of players as last week, though Stevie Mallan and Marvin Bartley are pressing for recalls.

Rangers Form

Ryan Jack is Rangers’ main injury doubt for the trip up the M8 but Steven Gerrard does have cover in the midfield areas. A visit to Leith is never an easy one but the Gers will travel in confident mood having not lost in 10 matches in all competitions. They have kept clean sheets in their last three Premiership fixtures so aren’t sacrificing defensive duties in pursuit of goals (15 in their last four) and several of their key players appear in peak form. Kent looks the perfect foil for leading scorer Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier and Daniel Candeias are combining well down the right. With the likes of Jermaine Defoe and Kyle Lafferty available from the bench in case things go pear-shaped, Gerrard appears to have most bases covered and they’ll continue in their pursuit of Celtic until the maths rule out the title.

Hibernian v Rangers Head-to-Heads

Hibs have not beaten Rangers in their last 13 top-flight fixtures at Easter Road but did win three out of four matches between the sides in the Championship between 2014 and 2016 and have won three of their last four meetings at Ibrox. The last three games between the teams have ended in draws, including two matches in a week over Christmas this season.

Hibernian v Rangers Current Best Match Odds

Hibernian 4/1, Draw 33/10, Rangers 7/10 (Odds correct at 10.30am March 7)

Hibernian v Rangers Predictions

Rangers will have one eye on next week’s Scottish Cup replay with Aberdeen and will miss Jack’s influence in midfield but should still have enough ammunition to inflict back-to-back defeats on Hibs. The away side are 7/10 with Betfred in the Match Betting and can be backed at 2/1 with several bookmakers to Win To Nil. It might be close, however, so a saver on Rangers to win by one in the Winning Margin at 13/5 with Boylesports is advised.
