Bookie reports a sizeable bet on relegation

William Hill made a big slash of the odds on Manchester United to get relegated from the Premier League this season. That was in a response to a reported big bet that they got on the Red Devils to fall from grace. The last time United weren’t in the top flight was back in the 1974/75 season.

The Red Devils were at 500/1 with the bookmaker, but those odds were slashed in half to 250/1. All that has been in response to another difficult week which has emerged at the club with a reported training ground spat between Paul Pogba and boss Jose Mourinho and a Carabao Cup exit against Championship side Derby.

“Sizeable bet”

William Hill reported a “sizeable” bet on United to be related this season. From their opening six games of the season, the Red Devils collected 10 points, suffering back to back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham along the way. While still enormously unlikely, this is the shortest price United has been for Premier League relegation since David Moyes was in charge.

“Life has been anything but rosy for Mourinho this season and things appear to be going from bad to worse following his latest row with Paul Pogba, We have had to cut their odds of going down as we have seen quite the sizeable punt over the last 24 hours,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

World Cup winner Paul Pogba was filmed in midweek in an apparently heated exchange with boss Mourinho. Mourinho played down the whole incident on Friday though. But there was another incident during the week in which Pogba had filmed himself laughing with teammates during their loss.

Jose Mourinho is the 9/4 favourite at William Hill to be the Next Premier League manager out of a job still.
