Holland v Chile World Cup 2014, 23rd June Betting Preview

The Chileans were always going to be dark horses in this group, but they were expected to challenge Holland for the second qualifying spot behind Spain. Turns out that wasn’t the case and while both of these have already qualified for the knockout stages, there is still the issue of top spot to be settled. Chile have to win to top the pool.

Holland v Chile Betting Tips

This is only the second meeting between the two, the only other meeting between them was all the way back at the 1928 Olympic games, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The Dutch, given their goalscoring form are favourites for this one, however, they have gone up against South American opposition twice before in World Cup matches in South America, and haven’t taken a win. Those matches were against Peru and Argentina at the 1978 World Cup. Overall, their form against South Americans is pretty solid though, as they have lost just two of their 11 World Cup matches against nations from that continent.

The Dutch have now posted three wins in their last four World Cup matches in which they have fallen behind in. They did it against Spain in their opening match in some style. They are in decent form now having won their last four matches played, which includes their victories over Spain and Australia in the group. While the Netherlands were thrilling against the Dutch, they were really rattled by Australia in their second group match, having to come from behind to take a 3-2 win. They will be missing Robin van Persie, who is suspended, which leaves Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as 7/4 favourite for the Dutch in the anytime goalscorer market, with Arjen Robben at 7/5.

In the anytime goalscorer market, Chile have Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas at 2/1 decent value. The South Americans couldn’t have produced a more tactically sound game against Chile, a game in which they were underdogs to win. They did a great job of pressing Spain hard, and that could also pay dividends against Holland. Chile have pace on the attack as well, and as Australia showed, that can bring rewards against the Dutch. Chile have won four of their last six World Cup matches, and have won their last four matches in a row in their current match form. However, they are underdogs here as they have won only two of their last 11 World Cup matches against European opposition though, and that has to be considered along with the fact that the Netherlands haven’t lost a World Cup group game since 1994.

Holland v Chile Predictions

Would immediately look for Both Teams To Score in this one and consider going over 2.5 goals. This should be a good open game, neither have anything to lose and everything to gain. Holland only need to avoid defeat to top the group, so Chile have to show a little more adventure. Could swing either way, so look for goals. Holland may just be enough value to back in the match outright.
