Horse racing record falls in stunning result. UK and Irish racing history was made on Thursday as HE KNOWS NO FEAR romped to a shock win from a 300/1 SP.
The excitement happened at Leopardstown. The race wasthe 2:30 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
With the narrow victory by a nose, He Knows No Fear became the longest-priced winner in UK and Irish history.
The previous horse racing record had been set in 1990 by Equinotical. He had scored that success at Kelso from a 250/1 mark.
It was only the second racetrack appearance for He Knows No Fear. But jockey Chris Hayes got his charge up just in time at the line to beat race favourite Agitaire.
The record-breaker had his backers as well.
Ladbrokes reported that an Irish punter collected almost €40,000 from a €100 each-way bet.
The operator also reported that 37 online bets were placed on the massive outsider. The highest of those was a £5.00 (£2.50 e/w) stake that was boosted from 500/1 to a huge 550/1.
