Owls to get the win in West Yorkshire

Huddersfield Town v Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 15th September 12.00pm

Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday lock horns in an intriguing EFL Championship fixture on Sunday afternoon. Both clubs appointed new managers during the international break, as Danny Cowley has moved to the John Smith’s Stadium, while Wednesday have brought in the experienced Garry Monk. The Terriers are desperate for the points after a miserable start, but will the Owls fly away with all three points?

Huddersfield Town News and Form – Can Cowley start with a win?

Danny Cowley did a terrific job at Lincoln City, taking the club from the National League to EFL League One in just a few seasons. Cowley was very successful at Sincil Bank, and he definitely deserved a job at a higher level. However, with Huddersfield Town languishing in the bottom three, Cowley has a huge job on his hands in West Yorkshire.

The Terriers have been woeful so far, drawing one and losing five to sit joint bottom of the Championship table with Stoke City. Huddersfield have not won a game in any competition since securing a shock win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League back in February of last season. Since then, the club have lost 13 and drawn three of 16 league games.

Before the international break, Town were beaten by Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. Despite Karlan Grant giving them the lead, the Terriers conceded twice in nine second-half minutes to gift all three points to the Hatters.

So far, Huddersfield have been beaten by Derby County, Lincoln, Fulham, Cardiff City, Reading and Luton this season. Will Sheffield Wednesday be added to that list at the weekend?

Sheffield Wednesday News and Form – Will the Owls swoop to all three points?

Garry Monk has certainly been around the block during his relatively short managerial career, taking charge of Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and now Sheffield Wednesday. Can the 40-year-old get off to a winning start at his new club on Sunday?

The Owls have had a mixed bag of results at the start of this season. Under the caretaker management of Lee Bullen, Wednesday picked up three wins and suffered three defeats. The Sheffield club also beat Rotherham United at the New York Stadium in the Carabao Cup.

Before the break, though, Sheffield Wednesday fell to a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Queens Park Rangers. Despite a Steven Fletcher penalty giving them the lead, two second-half Jordan Hugill goals gave Mark Warburton’s Rangers a 2-1 win at Hillsborough.

Since winning three of their opening four, Wednesday have slipped to back-to-back defeats in the Championship. With Monk now in charge, the Owls could be dark horses for the play-offs. However, they will be looking to return to winning ways as soon as possible before thinking about that.

Huddersfield Town v Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday win: Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Huddersfield have been in freefall. Last season in the Premier League, the Terriers picked up just three wins, losing a staggering 28 times along the way. Cowley will want to make an instant impact at the John Smith’s Stadium, but it could take quite some time to repair the damage.

Sheffield Wednesday made a stunning start to their Championship campaign, picking up nine points from a possible 12. The Owls have gone off the boil in their last two but brining in Monk could turn out to be a great bit of business by the club. I’m backing Wednesday to seal the win (13/8) on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday have opened the scoring in five of their seven league and cup matches this season. Meanwhile, they have scored first in all four of their wins in all competitions. Back the away side to strike first in Huddersfield, which you can get at evens.
