Hungary News and Form – Can Hungary secure a home win over Slovakia?

Hungary will pick back up on their strong qualification campaign after taking a knock on Friday. They went down 2-1 in Montenegro, a friendly international only though. Still, Hungary had been on a three-match winning streak before that. So will that loss have ruined momentum and put pressure on them for this qualification fixture? Probably not. But they will face Croatia in their first game of the next international break, so Hungary will want maximum points out of this. Hungary are level on points with Croatia at the top of the group.

Hungary can at least turn to the positive of their home form. It is a six-match winning streak on home soil that Hungary are on (competitive and friendly). In their last four competitive home fixtures, they have shipped just one goal. Three of their last five home successes have been by one goal margin, including their back to back successes over Croatia and Wales. Their one defeat in the group happened in a 2-0 reverse against Slovakia. They’ll be out trying to set the record straight from that upset.

Slovakia News and Form 0 Can Slovakia avoid defeat in Hungary?

It wasn’t a good night on Friday for Slovakia either. Like Hungary, they suffered a loss as well, a heavy 4-0 reverse by Croatia in the qualifiers though. So that leaves the Slovakians with a W2 L2 record in their qualification group. The two successes they took were against Hungary and Azerbaijan. The losses were against Wales and then Croatia on Friday. Slovakia’s last three games have gone over 3.5 goals, however, this doesn’t have the appeal of getting up to that kind of goal tally.

There has been next to no away form from Slovakia. They have gone W1 D1 L6 in their last eight road games (competitive and friendly fixtures). Four of those six defeats were by a 1-0 scoreline and all six of them were by a 1 goal margin. So again that may not be a bad betting angle for this game, a one goal margin loss for Slovakia. A place at Euro 2020 already looks a little bit slim for Slovakia, less so if they churn out another road defeat here.

Hungary v Slovakia Predictions

Hungary to win: The narrow home win for Hungary looks about right, likely by the one-goal margin. There is probably not going to be all that much between these two, but there has been a trend of home wins in recent meetings between the pair, so that is the way to go.
