Hungary News and Form – Can Hungary secure home win against Wales?

Hungary have six points on the board from their first three qualification matches. Their one home game so far saw them collected a superb 2-1 success over Croatia. Hungary have now posted a win in four of their last five games, so they are in decent form currently (L1). The one defeat that they took in that sequence of games was in a 2-0 road loss at Slovakia in their first qualification game. Hungary are on a four-match winning streak at home, scoring exactly two goals in each of those home successes.

Paddy Power

looking back at their Nations League campaign last year, they delivered the goods on home soil. They finished second in their group behind Finland, but they won all three home games (Finland, Greece and Estonia). So there is every reason behind those numbers to suggest that Hungary will be a serious challenge for Wales. If they were to collect a win that would leave them in a strong position because they have played a game more than the Welsh have.

Wales News and Form – Can Wales avoid defeat in Hungary?

Wales suffered a 2-1 defeat in Croatia on the weekend, throwing the points away because of defensive errors. They at least gave themselves a chance at the end after David Brooks had pulled one back with just over ten minutes to go. Wales had six shots on target in the game to two by Croatia. That was despite them only getting 36% of possession in the game. That loss against Croatia came after the Welsh had opened their Euro 2020 qualification campaign with a narrow home win over Slovakia. Wales are W4 L5 in their last nine games so they have been struggling to find their consistency.

They are lacking a bit of quality in the final third of the pitch to put the ball in the back of the net. In none of their last eight games now have Wales scored more than one goal in a game. With the qualification campaign at this stage, a win would be big for the Welsh. It would move them up level with Hungary with a game in hand over them. But at the end of the day, they may look at it as it being more important to avoid defeat. All of their tough away games would be out of the way after this. Considering that the Hungarians have been in strong home form, and after their defensive fluffs in Croatia, the Welsh may just look for a solid, strong performance to come away with a point.

Hungary v Wales Predictions

Hungary to win: The home victory in the game is well worth a punt at the value that it is. Hungary are in good home form and have been scoring consistently well on home turf. With Wales far from being a prolific side in front of goal, the home win looks a pretty good proposition.
