Iceland News and Form – Tough test for the Icelanders?

Erik Hamren’s Iceland have been very competitive in the group up until now. The Icelanders have taken 12 points from their opening six matches, winning four and losing two.

Since being thumped by the French in Saint-Denis back in March, Iceland have won three of their following four. Last time out, though, Hamren’s boys were beaten by Albania in Elbasan, crashing to a 4-2 defeat. Their misery was compounded as France and Turkey both picked up big wins.

Iceland have been on a meteoric rise over the past five years or so, and they are certainly not out of this group just yet. Victory over France on Friday will blow Group H wide open again.

  • The French are joint top of the group with Turkey

France News and Form – World champions to prevail in Reykjavik?

France are second in the group having lost to Turkey when the two teams met in Konya back in June. Since then, though, Les Bleus have won three in a row. Didier Deschamps’ boys have played some scintillating stuff at times, scoring an impressive 19 goals in six Group H matches. Meanwhile, they have shipped four goals.

Last time out, however, France laboured to a 3-0 win over Andorra. With the Andorrans currently ranked 139th in the world, the French would have been hoping for a far greater margin of victory.

France have been excellent in the last two major tournaments. On home soil back in 2016, Deschamps’ troops finished runners-up to Portugal. Then in July last year, France lifted the FIFA World Cup in Russia, which was their second world crown. France will be one of the favourites to win Euro 2020, but they have to get there first. At the time of writing, the world champions are available at 7/2 to win the tournament outright.

France thumped Iceland on home turf in the reverse match, and they will be looking to do the double over them on Friday.

Iceland v France Predictions

France win: On paper, this has the potential to be a tricky tie for France. Iceland are not an easy nut to crack on home soil, but the world champions should have enough in the locker to get the job done in Reykjavik. The away win is available at 9/20.

When these two met at the Stade de France six months ago, France were ahead at half time in the eventual 4-0 win. Check out the tempting odds of 21/20 for Deschamps’ team to be winning at half time and full time at Laugardalsvollur on Friday.
