Race Details

This is a Grade 3 contest over 1m 3f for Fillies and Mares 4 years old and above.

Race Favourite

Mean Mary has been leading the way in the betting and she has the form there. She scored at Gulfstream on a slightly longer trip in her last outing, which was back in January.

Mean Mary looks like a very bold runner and stacked with potential to strike again on the weekend. She has top jockey Luis Saez taking the ride again and is a 5/4 front runner* (betting odds taken from Betfair at 20:17 GMT on Friday, 27th March 2020).

Claims

Elizabeth Way has a big chance of shining in this fixture. She has scored in her last two runs so is on a hattrick. The current form is there. Last month she was out winning at Gulfstream over a 1m 1f trip. That was from 14/1 at the Grade 3 Very One Stakes. She’s a super progressive horse and will be in the picture.

Gentle Ruler is bang in form with five wins in her last six starts. The most recent of those wins was in a Grade 3 contest and was highly impressive as the 2/1 FAV. That was a win at the distance as well that she recorded at Keeneland. She should be there or thereabouts in taking on Elizabeth Way and Mean Mary.

E/W Claims

Beale Street is worth a look as an e/w pick for the contest. Needs to prove herself over the distance, but she stuck a 1m 1f win on good ground at Gulfstream just last month.

It was an impressive run and is coming up in grade, but she looks an exciting prospect based on what she delivered last time at Gulfstream.

Tip

There are three superbly strong runners in this one at the head of the market. We can’t skip past the form of Gentle Ruler for the run, however. A win at distance last time out could be telling in her holding off a strong field.

Race Details

This is a 1m ½f contest at Grade 2. It is for three-year-old Fillies only on the main track at Gulfstream (dirt).

Race Favourite

The front runner in the market is Tonalist’s Shape from a 13/8 quote* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 19:11 GMT on Thursday 27th March 2020). There has been massive form from her without question and has won her two trips under rules.

In total, Tonalist’s Shape has won five times between 5f and 1m across turf and all-weather. Adaptable horse and her last score was at this grade at the venue, beating out Spice Is Nice by over a length. She will have big claims in this one, as she looks to defend an unbeaten record.

Claims

Lucrezia put in a commanding victory on her last run. That was a win at Tampa Bay Downs at 11/1 in a 1m contest. She streaked home by an impressive five lengths in that one and it gave her her third win in her last five trips.

She is carrying form and she is capable of raising a challenge in this one. Lucrezia has very nice appeal at 8/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 19:11 GMT on Thursday 27th March 2020)

We would have to pull in Spice Is Nice after following Tonalist’s Shape home in second place in her last contest. That was a 1m trip at Gulfstream. But the exciting thing was that she was thrown into that Grade 3 action on just her second start. Connections can see a lot of potentials there clearly. Definitely one to watch on her return.

Lake Avenue brings some big claims as well. She had been the 5/6 FAV on her last trip on a 1m tip at Aqueduct earlier this month. She came home fourth in that one, a bit below par.

Before that, she had scored big in a $250k event and that’s the form that makes her a threat in this field at 6/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 19:11 GMT on Thursday 27th March 2020).

E/W Pick

Inveterate out at 50/1 goes as our each-way pick* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 19:11 GMT on Thursday 27th March 2020). Yes, it’s a chancer but last month she did score a win at Aqueduct on a 1m trip at 13/5.

That broke her maiden and it was an impressive score as well, coming at six lengths. She may have to find something bigger to claim a win, but she could find herself in the money with a strong run.

Tip

Unbeaten in five starts, Tonalist’s Shape has to get the nod for us in this one. She is the one to beat and while there are great claims from the likes of Lake Avenue and Spice Is Nice, it’s hard to see either of them doing enough to topple the favourite.

Race Details

This is a big Grade 2 contest on the turf at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The distance is 1m 4f and it is the Kitten’s Joy Pan American Stakes, which is open to 4-year-olds plus.

Race Favourite

Zulu Alpha is the front runner at the head of the market, trading odds on at 1/2 when we sized up the market* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 19:11 GMT on Thursday 27th March 2020). It’s easy to see why. He has won at Grade 1 and Grade 2 on his previous trips to Gulfstream.

In total Zule Alpha has claimed 11 race wins from 1m to 1m 1f. So he will be rolling back into town on the weekend looking for a course hat trick. It’s hard to see where he will get tripped up after having won four of his previous five runs at the venue.

Claims

Channel Cat looks the most likely contender to upset the favourite. He has won one of four at Gulfstream before. On his last run however he was beaten heavily by 8 lengths against Zulu Alpha in a 1m 1f trip in January at the venue. Not having been out since then, it’s hard to imagine that tables are going to turn dramatically in this one.

Bemma’s Boy is worth a look with four wins under his belt between 5f and 1m 4f. He scored a win on his last run which was at Sam Houston Race Park over the longer distance there in January. He gave an impressive account of himself in the fixture and was beaten by less than a length by Dot Matrix in a field of 10. Easily brings the place claims.

E/W Pick

It’s really hard to see any long-priced winner doing enough to take out some really strong competitors here. But the pick for each way would have to Galleon Mast with plenty of experience there having won 11 times from 6f to 1m. He had a good place finish on his last outing which was a 1m at Gulfstream in January. Stepping up in distance may suit him.

Tip

It is another race of the day where the favourite just looks too strong. Zulu Alpha is easily good enough to be the NAP for Saturday at Gulfstream. There’s just no reason to oppose him in this fixture after beating Channel Cat so convincingly last time out.

Race Details

This is the big race of the day from Gulfstream on Saturday. It is the Curlin Florida Derby (Grade 1) which is open to three-year-olds. It’s a 1m 1f contest on the dirt of the Main Track.

Race Favourite

Heading into the action for this grade 1 contest, Tiz The Law is the odds-on favourite at 10/11* (betting odds taken from Betfair at 20:17 GMT on Friday, 27th March 2020). He came up with a win on his last outright, the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes at the course last month.

He got the better of Ete Indien by three lengths in that contest and it was the third win that Tiz The Law has taken from 6f to 1m. That’s three wins in four starts that he has had and trainer Barclay Tagg is 1-1 in the last 14 days. Tiz The Lawis going to be the one to beat.

Claims

Independence Hall has produced some steady form and has claimed three wins from 7f to 1m. So he has it in him. He was a beaten favourite on his last run which was at Tampa Bay Downs last month on a 1m trip in the Grade 3 Sam F Davis Stakes.

It was a good account of himself that he gave and looks to be a very consistent, strong runner. Will he have enough to respond to that beaten favourite tag and beat Tiz The Law in one fell swoop?

Ete Indien, who was second to Tiz The Law in that Holy Bull Stakes at the start of February at Gulfstream, did respond to that. On his last run, which was at the end of February, he scored at Grade 2 crushing the field to beat Candy Tycoon by over eight lengths. That was a very impressive turnaround and jockey Florent Geroux has a 25% strike rate in the last fourteen days.

It may be worth having a look at Gouverneur Morris as well who has been successful at 5f and 1m. He delivered a win on his last run, having gone off as the 1/2 odds-on favourite at Tampa Bay Downs on a 1m trip.

He hasn’t put a foot wrong in his development yet and will bring some nice claims to the table and has been respected in the market at 9/1* (betting odds taken from Betfair at 20:17 GMT on Friday, 27th March 2020).

E/W Pick

Looking down the rest of the field, it is the aforementioned Candy Tycoon would have to be the each-way pick at 40/1* (betting odds taken from Betfair at 20:17 GMT on Friday, 27th March 2020).

He was heavily beaten by Ete Indien recently but produced a very good second place from a field of ten on his last run at Gulfstream up at Grade 2 last month.

Tip

We are going to take on the favourite in this one and lean on Ete Indien. Given his runaway success last month at Gulfstream after having been beaten by Tiz The Law, then we feel that he could indeed turn the tables.
