Ipswich Town v Leeds United Betting Tips – Championship, 5th May 12.30pm

These two teams have had very different seasons, with Ipswich Town being relegated to League One while Leeds United still have every chance of lining up in the Premier League next term. Ahead of their play-off campaign, Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be looking to end the regular season with an away win. However, can the Tractor Boys cause an upset at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon?

Ipswich Town News and Form

Ipswich Town have had a season to forget, as their long stay in the Championship has come to a sorry end. The Tractor Boys have been on the decline ever since Mick McCarthy left, and there was nothing that Bryan Klug, Paul Hurst or Paul Lambert could do to save them. The club from Suffolk have won just four Championship matches all season, losing 25 times along the way.

Since beating Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium a month back, Ipswich have taken a solitary point from their last five. Last weekend, Lambert’s men were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Town’s win at Bolton remains their only victory since January.

A big summer lies ahead for Ipswich, as the club looks to rebuild and get back to the second tier at the first time of asking. Can the Tractor Boys wave goodbye to the Championship with a rare home win on Sunday?

Key-Facts – Ipswich Town v Leeds United

  • Only Norwich City (42) and Sheffield United (39), who have both been promoted, have picked up more away points than Leeds (37)
  • No side in this season’s Championship have drawn more home matches than Ipswich (11)
  • Town have scored just 19 times in the league at Portman Road, with only Bolton Wanderers netting fewer home goals this term with 13

Leeds United News and Form

After sealing back-to-back wins over Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United had automatic promotion in their own hands. However, Bielsa’s boys have taken just one point from their last three, which has handed the top two spots to Norwich City and Sheffield United. Successive defeats to Wigan Athletic and Brentford was followed up with 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa last weekend.

Leeds must dust themselves down at get ready for the play-offs. Missing out on top two will have no doubt hurt the Yorkshiremen, but United will back themselves to get the job done in the play-offs. At the time of writing, Leeds are priced at just 2/1 for promotion.

On the whole, the Whites have been excellent on the road, winning 11 of their 22 away fixtures in the Championship. However, they have been in patchy form on their travels of late, winning three and losing three of their last six, failing to score in two of their previous three.

Ipswich Town v Leeds United Predictions

Leeds United win: Ipswich will already be preparing for life in League One. As for Leeds, a huge few weeks are in store in their quest to get back to the big time. Nothing hinges on this game, but United will be hoping to pick up all three points from Sunday’s trip to Suffolk. This could be a comfortable afternoon for the visitors, so I’m backing Leeds to be winning at half time and full time.
