Ireland News and Form

Jeff Hendrick got the goal that gave Ireland three points in their opening Euro 2020 qualification match. It was a really poor 1-0 win at Gibraltar though. Ireland made extremely hard work of the game. But still, it snapped a six-match winless run that Ireland had been on since back at the start of the Nations League. Ireland failed to score in any of their four Nations League games and the goal against Gibraltar is their only one in five played now.

Looking at that five-match streak, there have been just two goals in total in them. That’s because while Ireland have not been scoring, they have managed to stay tight in defence. They have three clean sheets in five currently. Ireland are currently winless and scoreless in three at home. They have to start improving as there are tougher challenges in this group like Switzerland and Denmark to come.

Georgia News and Form

Georgia suffered a 2-0 loss in a setback against Switzerland in their Euro 2020 qualification opener. That saw them snap a run of good form which they had been on. They are now W5 D1 L1 in their last seven. Georgia won their Nations League group, taking 16 of 18 points. They won all of their away games as well, which was against Latvia, Andorra and Kazakhstan. So that wasn’t the toughest of opposition that they were up against granted, but it was still a good, confident run.

It didn’t help them out against higher quality opposition in the form of Switzerland though. Georgia have not scored in any of their last three trips to Ireland. But still, Ireland struggled so badly against Gibraltar that Georgia have reason to be confident. Looking back at their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign, Georgia failed to win a game, taking a D5 L5 record in a group which contained Ireland and Wales.

Ireland v Georgia Predictions

Ireland to win: That was a terrible struggle that Ireland had against Gibraltar and they don’t look a confident side. They are not worth taking on in the match outright at odds-on so perhaps it is the draw in the match outright which has the biggest appeal instead.
