Italy v Finland Preview

So Italy found themselves on the path to redemption after their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. It has been something of a transitional period for them and they look as if they do still have a fair way to go. In the Nations League, last year and they ended up finishing second sandwiched between winners Portugal and the relegated Poland in their group. They could only manage a home draw though in both of their games in that campaign and in total, they only manage two goals in their four fixtures.

Italy have not managed to score more than one goal in a game in any of their last eight international fixtures played. It has happened just once in their last 10 for them. Each of their last seven international fixtures have ended up under 2.5 goals and Italy have returned just three goals in their last five played. They have actually drawn each of their last four games on home soil. They are in a relatively easy qualification group here against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Greece, Armenia and Lichtenstein. They need to get some momentum going.

Key-Facts – Italy v Finland

  • Italy have drawn their last four home games
  • Italy’s last seven games have all gone under 2.5 goals
  • Finland won four of their six Nations League matches

It is going to be interesting to see what the Eagle Owls come up with on their trip to Italy. Finland have lost three of their last four fixtures and each of those for fixtures was outside of Finland. During that run of four matches, Finland managed to produce just the one goal. That one goal was enough to see them take an international friendly win over Sweden back in early January. Before this slip in form though they were on a five-match winning streak.

They came out firing in the Nations League winning their first four matches and even though they lost their last two or they had done enough by that point to top their group. So they will be getting promoted up to League B. In their away games in the group, they lost without scoring in Hungary and Greece, while edging a one nil success in Estonia. This is a step up in class of opposition, but you wonder if strong defensive display from them will frustrate the Azzurri.

Italy v Finland Predictions

Italy to win: Italians are still a work in progress as they look for things to click, especially up front. Finland will be arriving in a good positive frame of mind but still, you would have to back in the extra quality of the Italians on home soil to pick up the win. Italy to win to nil at 8/11 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 19th, 2019 at 3:50 p.m.)
