Italy Women News and Form

Italy are looking like a side that nobody is going to want to meet in the knockout stages of the competition. They will be moving through to the next round, even in the worst-case scenario of dropping to third place in this group. They have done enough to already move through as one of the best third-placed teams. But if they get a point in this game they will go ahead as group winners. There will be some huge momentum for them if they could do that or actually beat Brazil. They have looked so good on the ball, so full of confidence with their passing and movement. They currently have a +6 goal difference which will serve them well if they were to lose this game. It may still keep them in the top two.

Over 3.5 goals

Barbara Bonansea scored a hattrick for them in their first match and then Cristiana Girelli matched that in their second game. So that is seven goals which they have put on the board so far in their two games. It is a four-match winning streak that Italy are on at the moment, and they have scored at least two goals in each of those wins. Actually looking back further they have scored at least two goals in each of their 10 games played in this calendar year. They do only have one clean sheet in their last seven games though, which was from their win over Jamaica.

Key-Facts – Italy Women v Brazil Women

  • The Italians only have one clean sheet in their last seven fixtures
  • Italy are on a four match winning streak at the moment
  • the Brazilians have lost eight of their last nine games

Brazil Women News and Form

Heading into the World Cup, Brazil were on a seven-match losing streak. But then they took a 3-0 win over Jamaica and all of that looked behind them. It was actually a pretty cohesive performance by them. They were riding that wave of confidence as they took a 2-0 lead over Australia in their second group fixture. But then it all fell apart for them as they crumbled to a 3-2 loss against the Matilda’s. So maybe it was the weaker opposition that are Jamaica which was making Brazil look good. They have scoring goals though at least, with Christiane netting four of their five goals in the tournament so far.

But their defence looked really shaky when Australia started come back at them, and they just started making mistake after mistake at the back. You have to think that the way in which they lost that game will really have hurt their confidence. You stack the manner of defeat on top of all the losses that they have suffered in 2019, and it has to have an effect on them. So far their superstar Marta has only played 45 minutes of action. They really need her fit and putting in a big performance to stamp some influence on the game. In order to guarantee a top two spot they have two match whatever it is that Australia do in their game against Jamaica.

Italy Women v Brazil Women Predictions

Italy to win: just as it was in the case of Australia it is worth backing Italy in a double chance against Brazil. Italy are playing some great stuff at the one that they look full of running and full of confidence. They do only need a point out of this to top the group, but they may get drawn into a big open end-to-end game.
