Jamaica Women News and Form

So there has been nothing produced by Jamaica so far at this World Cup, having opened with a 3-0 reverse against Brazil in their opener. Pile on top a 5-0 drubbing by Italy in their second game, and Jamaica are about to head home. That is a big goal difference (-8) disadvantage that they are not likely to overcome in this one game. So even if they were to win, they would not move up into third place in the group. So they will be bowing out, but can they put some shine on what has otherwise been a fairly disappointing campaign for them?

Jamaica have conceded 11 goals in their last three games played and that is a worrying sign for them ahead of this game against Australia. This is Jamaica’s first ever World Cup campaign, so that means they are still looking for their first ever World Cup goal. Actually their goalkeeper, 19-year-old Sydney Schneider has been the star of the show for them. Despite all the goals against her, she has looked pretty good. This is just such a tough game for them against Australia who will be raring to go as they search for goals.

Key-Facts – Jamaica Women v Australia Women

  • Jamaica have conceded 11 goals in their last three games
  • Australia have scored at least two goals in seven of their last nine
  • the Matilda’s have conceded a least two goals in each of their last four

Australia Women News and Form

Australia surprisingly lost their opening game 2-1 against Italy. Australia threw away an early lead in the game as well. That left them in a difficult position which looked worse as they were 2-0 down against Brazil in their second group stage match. But then Australia’s character and quality came to the fore as they fought back to produce a 3-2 win over the South Americans. That was such a tremendous comeback from Australia that their confidence should now be through the roof.

It was a goal just before half-time against Brazil that really changed all the momentum in that game. So the Matildas are now level on points with Brazil in the group, trailing group leaders Italy by three points. With Italy and Brazil facing off in the other final group stage fixture, it leaves Australia really in a position where they have to shoot hard for the win and rack up as many goals as they can.

They are only two goals behind Brazil in the goal difference factor, so need to start eating into that with a strong performance against Jamaica. That’s just in case they finish level on points with the South Americans. Australia are a bold positive side, but they are not good at the back. They have conceded a least two goals in each of their last four games now. However, they have scored at least two goals in all but two of their last nine fixtures. Australia are W5 L4 in that sequence of games.

Jamaica Women v Australia Women Predictions

Australia to win: Australia have plenty of attacking power about them and they should be able to run up a few goals against a beleaguered Jamaica. There has been some really poor defending by the Caribbean team and Australia will easily capitalise and get a comfortable victory on the board, with a clean sheet as well.
