Former Rugby League star Jamie Peacock has called out Rio Ferdinand to take him on inside the boxing ring. Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has been backed by betting operator Betfair to take up a professional boxing career. This week Rio was posting training videos and getting a lot of stick back from social media followers about his soft hitting.

So Peacock went on Twitter, posted a picture of himself inside a ring and challenged Ferdinand to a duel. He called it for the spring of 2018 and for the proceeds, targeting £250k to go to charity.

Ladbrokes immediately priced up 39-year-old Peacock at 1/2 to take the win in the bout against the former England man, with Ferdinand trading as a 6/4 shot.

Ladbrokes are offering 100/1 on Ferdinand to win a World Title, while it’s 7/1 for the 38-year-old to fight on an Anthony Joshua card. World Champion Joshua, a friend of Rio’s has offered to spar with Ferdinand.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Two legends of Leeds could lock horns in the ring next year, and right now the odds favour the hard man of rugby league over the fairy footballer.”
