Jason Kenny’s SPOTY 2021 odds slashed

Cyclist Jason Kenny roared to another gold medal success at the Olympic Games on the weekend.

A victory in the keirin on Sunday made Kenny the most successful British Olympian of all time.

The win saw him move ahead of Chris Hoy for gold medals, Kenny earning his 7th. It’s nine Olympic medals overall for him in his career.

Naturally, that huge achievement has seen punters flood back to Kenny to win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award.

The odds of him winning have been slashed down to a quote of 7/2* (odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on August 8th, 2021 at Betfair).

Laura Kenny also receives backing

Laura Kenny, the spouse of Jason, also had a big Olympic Games after breaking her arm and shoulder 18 months ago.

She collected gold in the madison to become the first British woman to win the top honour at three different Olympic Games.

The gold in the omnium, which Kenny won in 2012 and 2016 was just out of reach for her this time around.

The five-time gold medalist had to settle for silver in that.

She had suffered a crash in the opening discipline and then struggled in what is regarded her best discipline, the elimination race.

Kenny was just left with too much to do in the final points race.

Daley is still the favourite in SPOTY 2021 betting

Despite all the attention for the Kenny’s, it is still Tom Daley who is holding firm at the head of SPOTY 2021 betting.

Daley is the 9/4 favourite after capturing the hearts of the nation with his gold medal in the 10m synchronised diving* (odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on August 8th, 2021 at Betfair).

He was tearful after finally managing to get that coveted gold in what was his fourth Olympic Games.

Daley also claimed a bronze medal in the individual event.

Could Lewis Hamiton race to the win?

F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton may not be out of this, despite being a current quote of 16/1 in SPOTY 2021 odds* (odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on August 8th, 2021 at Betfair).

Hamilton is currently having a tough season with a real fight on his hands to win this year’s Drivers’ Championship in the sport.

The British driver moved to the head of the standings in the final race before the mid-season break, following a battling second place finish in Hungary.

Hamilton has won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award twice, in 2014 and 2020. Notably, if he does land this year’s championship title, it will be his eighth.

That tally will see him become the most successful driver in the history of F1, as he would edge ahead of Michael Schumacher’s record.
