The Premier League season is on its final stretch now. Manchester City have landed themselves the title, the top four is all but confirmed but one race which is still wide open and could provide an exciting finish to the season is the Premier League Top Goalscorer. This is now down to a two-horse race between Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

30 Goals

It has been some return to the Premier League for Salah. He has lived up to the hype and then some since his move from Roma in the summer. No-one really could have predicted that he would be on the brink of winning the Golden Boot. With four games to play for the season, the Liverpool star has scored 30 goals but has also put up nine assists in the top flight hit season. Salah has gotten 62% of his shots on target at this stage of the season (63/102) and that’s a better percentage than what Kane can boast. Salah has gotten to the 30 goal mark from 102 shots, 22 fewer than Kane has produced this season.

Remaining Games:
West Brom (away)
Stoke (home)
Chelsea (away)
Brighton (home)

There has to be more goals in there for Salah. He got a brace against Stoke earlier in the season, scored against his old club Chelsea in a 1-1 draw. Liverpool played outta 0-0 draw with West Brom and Salah wasn’t on the scoresheet as the Reds romped to a 5-1 away win at Brighton in early December. You would expect Salah to get at least a couple more with the easy games left in the season.

Harry Kane 9/2 odds* (betting odds taken on April 19th, 2018 at 5:32 p.m.)
26 Goals

Kane, who has won the Premier League Golden Boot for the last two seasons is back in the mix with 26 goals, and 56% of his shots have been on target this season. Tottenham recently lodged an appeal with the Premier League to get Kane awarded a goal that was initially given to teammate Christian Eriksen against Stoke. Kane pleaded that the ball had glanced his shoulder on its way into the net. A panel of adjudicators agreed and overturned the initial decision to give it to him. So that was a boost, but Salah probably wasn’t very happy.

Remaining Games:
Watford (h)
West Brom (a)
Newcastle (h)
Leicester (h)

Spurs have a pretty comfortable, easy run-in to the end of the season with three of their last four games to be played at home. Tottenham have averaged a couple of goals per home game, but Kane has actually scored more away goals than home goals this season. Last season Kane scored eight goals in his final three games. He couldn’t do it again, could he?

Predictions

Liverpool do have the extra work in the Champions League to still get through and that is the one thing that could throw a spanner in the works of his final output in the Premier League. Kane showed last season that he is capable of producing a massive finish to the season and is in good form at the moment. Howver, Salah looks to have done enough by now to hold on to the advantage that he has. Kane may close the gap as Salah should get rest time because of the importance now of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign, but can hold on.
