Song For Someone primed for Kempton success

Horse Racing Betting

The Betway Kingwell Hurdle (Grade 2) is one of the big features of Saturday’s racing from Kempton. This is a 2m contest with six runners heading to the start. Of those six, there has been a tight tussle at the head of the betting market. Song For Someone and Chtibello are expected to duke it out for the honours.

Song For Someone

Distance winner Song For Someone was last out in the middle of January when he lined up in the Matchbook Holloways handicap hurdle. He was second there to Thomas Darby (who is going to the Champion Hurdle) but Song For Someone wasn’t upstaged

He pressed well but just didn’t have any response when Thomas Darby started to drive home. Song For Someone was well ahead of the rest of the field.

He has won four hurdles and an NH flat from 2m to 2m 2f so won’t mind this trip. He has been in really sharp form and he will need every bit of it here as he lines up as a 9/4 joint-favourite alongside Chtibello* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on February 21st, 2020 at 17:58).

Chtibello

Chtibello will be looking for his County Hurdle time to come this year where he will be aiming to follow up his success from 12 months ago. This will be his first trip since Boxing Day when he was out at course and distance in the Christmas Hurdle.

He was a fifth of ten in the race, well beaten and was never in the picture. Chtibello looks as if he needs to find a bit more ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, that’s for sure

For Saturday’s outing, he looks less value at 9/4 than Song For Someone* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on February 21st, 2020 at 17:58).

Elgin can make a positive return

The Alan King-trained Elgin is back for the first time since July 2018. King has won this race in two of the last three years, so there is that angle to provide some claims. Elgin himself is a course and distance winner.

It has been a long time away for him since his injury and the fact that he has come in here at 7/2 shows that bookmakers are cautious* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on February 21st, 2020 at 17:58).

The rest of the runners

Zambella, trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies is the outsider in the field here. But the five-year-old should be just about hitting top form now after some recent work. She was last out at Sandown earlier in February where she took second from last at 33/1. That was a 2m trip in heavy conditions, however.

Diego Du Charmil has been stepping up this season and has performed well in his last two trips. Those were both at Ascot where he claimed a 2m win before taking second in his most recent effort towards the end of November, getting beaten by Capeland by 12l.

He hasn’t been over the hurdles in three years now. Quick Grabim was well beaten on his last trip, taking a sixth-place finish in a field of eight. That was from a starting price of 50/1. That was a course and distance trip in December 2019.

Predictions & Tips

The Tom Symonds-trained Song For Someone gets the nod as the pick for this hot contest. He has been really sharp in his work this season and a loss against Thomas Darby recently actually showed some massive positives by Song For Someone. He has been consistent and quick and can take this.

The other interest in the race goes towards the returning Elgin just because of C&D and Alan King. Even though he is rank outsider, Zambella may be able to get up and challenge for a place finish.
