Home Before Dusk aims for more success

Home Before Dusk has won five races from a distance at 1m to 1m 2f on the all-weather. So the form is easily there for him. At the back end of 2019, he won three of his final four races of the calendar year. His first trip this year was in early January at Newcastle.

That ended in a fifth-place finish for the Keith Dalgleish-trained charge. In this race, Home Before Dusk will be looking to get his first win at Kempton on his debut at the track. He was shaping up as the 13/8 favourite on Monday evening in the market* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on February 3rd 2020 at 20:38)

Can Family Fortunes handle the hike?

Family Fortunes knows all about Kempton so he will have some claims here. His last run was at the course and distance just last month. He had been the 4/1 favourite for the race, but he ended up getting beaten into third place. He has secured a C&D win however as the six-year-old struck twelve months ago in a Class 4 race. That was the last time that he won a race and he is 11/4 for this one* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on February 3rd 2020 at 20:38).

Pinnata a C&D threat?

Another winner at course and distance like Family Fortunes is Pinnata. That success for Pinnata happened in December 2018. He has, however, been struggling to find his form this season. Aside from a second-place here at Kempton in an October run, he has not finished higher than 7th in any of his last five runs. He was eight on his last shown which was at Newcastle last month. The last time that he took on C&D was in mid-November and he was 8th of 14.

Ultimate Avenue and Adelante

Adelante has been going backwards with her form. In her last outing, she finished dead last at Baden-Baden in a 7f trip. That was back in September. As a four-year-old, she is the youngest runner in the field and there’s plenty of time on her side. She did win at 7f at Wolverhampton in April last year but at Class 5. Her last outing was a Class 2 run and she was 8th of 12 at Goodwood in August.

Ultimate Avenue has claimed a 7f win but the was three years ago and doesn’t look a great fit for this kind of contempt. The last trip he had he secured a fifth-place finish at Chelfmosrt over a 1m trip in January. That was from a field of seven and doesn’t immediately appear to be a big threat in the field.

Predictions & Tips

The C&D win for Family Fortunes a year ago does throw some claims towards him. The fact that he was favourite in his last trip also backs that up a little bit, but the fact that he did not deliver the win at C&D on that attempt probably leaves him short for this one.

Home Before Dusk has plenty of winning experience at this distance on the all-weather and can’t be overlooked for this one at all. He is only 4lb heavier than he was for his win at Wolverhampton in December.
