In-form Gers face another battle at bogey side Kilmarnock

Football Betting

Kilmarnock’s title challenge has just begun to falter but the Scottish Cup provides a welcome distraction and Rugby Park is still buzzing from their defeat of Rangers in the Premiership last month.

Kilmarnock Form and News

Killie’s win over Rangers last month took a lot out of Steve Clarke’s team and they’ve not managed a win in three subsequent Scottish Premiership matches, losing their latest home game against Hearts. They needed a last-minute penalty save from Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to preserve a point against struggling Dundee at Rugby Park on Wednesday having had to come from behind twice. Their artificial pitch has attracted criticism from Rangers players this season and home fans will be hoping that the opposition has that on their mind again this weekend. Former Gers’ striker Kris Boyd is available again after suspension and Rangers-bound Jordan Jones will again play against his future employers so this has all the hallmarks of a tough cup tie for the Glasgow giants.

Rangers Form and News

Steven Gerrard’s team have won all four matches since losing to Kilmarnock in the league, scoring 14 goals and conceding only three. Wednesday’s victory at Aberdeen was particularly impressive but came at a cost with yet another red card for the Premiership’s top goalscorer Alfredo Morelos. He is now facing a suspension but Jermaine Defoe looks a ready-made replacement with the former England international having scored three times in the last four games. James Tavernier has also been a regular on the score-sheet lately, though has profited from the unproportionate amount of penalties that Rangers have been awarded. Ryan Jack could keep his place in the starting line-up at the expense of Steven Davis.

Kilmarnock v Rangers Head-to-Heads

Rangers have not beaten Kilmarnock in six attempts since 2016 with three wins for the home side and a three draws in that time. The Gers haven’t won at Rugby Park since 2011. None of the last 12 meetings between the sides has featured more than three goals.

Scottish CupKilmarnock v Rangers Predictions

Rangers should not be odds-on favourites to win this tie. Killie always seem to raise their game against the Gers and will view this as a winnable tie, especially as their opponents are missing their main striker. This may well need a replay with the draw fairly priced at 14/5 with several bookmakers including BetVictor. Kilmarnock/Draw in the Double Chance is 6/5 with bet365 and Under 3.5 Total Goals is 4/9 with Betbright. A 1-1 Correct Score is our speculative bet at 7/1 with BetVictor.
