Can Woods claim eighth Firestone title?

PGA WGC Bridgestone Invitational Golf Betting Info
Another massive week of golf betting on the cards this week at the Firestone Country club in Ohio. The south course at the club has the distinction of being the longest Par 70 on the PGA Tour. This course will be so tempting for the big hitters in the field as there is not too much punishment abound for any wayward strokes off the tee. The rough is shallow enough to be playable, but just long enough to hold up balls that are in danger of running away. The greens at the Firestone are quick and not too easily tamed and it is why you should be looking for a player who has enough experience here before to take the title. It is a tough course to get the better of for those who have not undergone its trials before.

PGA WGC Bridgestone Invitational Golf Betting Defending Champion
Australian Adam Scott, who has been in the news recently, is the defending champion at the Firestone CC. Scott was in command of the British Open heading into the final four holes, but blew his lines big time with a poor run of bogeys. How much that will have hurt him will be in question as this is his first appearance after that crushing blow of throwing away his first Major title. Still, you look back at his form and he is in great shape, coming off a 3rd at the AT&T Nationals and then the second at The Open. He may need to repeat his stellar opening round of last year at Firestone where he fired an 8-under. That would be the confidence boosting fillip that he needs. Scott is trading at 18/1 with online bookmaker Bet365 because of his good form.

PGA WGC Bridgestone Invitational Golf Betting Favourite
Tiger Woods is a seven time winner of Firestone, but hasn’t delivered at the course in the past couple of years. But because of his tremendous track record at the course, he goes as favourite. Three wins on the Tour this year suggest that he is back at the top of his came and has two wins in his last five outings. A T3 at the British Open was a great finish, but really it could have been a lot better for him. Just needs to get his driver working a little bit better than it was at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s and he will shape up well here. Woods finished T37 one over par here last year and his driving accuracy was well below his normal standards. Correct that and he should be in contention. Tiger Woods is trading at a price of 9/2 favourite with online bookmaker Bet365.

Other Contenders
Deep field in action in Ohio and we turn our attention to Luke Donald. No-one seemed to pay too much attention to the world number one as he landed a T5 at the British Open. Has good course history as well at Firestone, as he finished runner up to Adam Scott here last year. He has been very good with the putter this season, although strangely, the game which he is know for, his accuracy in green approaches has not quite been up to his own his standards this season. Still, another steady week here and with a hot putter, Donald can easily play his way to the top of the leader-board. Donald has three top ten top finishes in his last five Tour starts, four top twenties in his last five Tour starts. Going well at the moment and surely time to deliver another win soon.

England’s Lee Westwood also has a good enough history at Firestone to suggest that he will be a strong contender on Sunday. Westwood has finished in the top ten in three of his last four starts at the event and his stats suggests that a title won’t be long coming. He 13th for total driving this season on the PGA Tour and more importantly, second in greens in regulation. You really can’t argue with that form. Still looking for his first PGA Tour win of the season, but has five top tens in nine events during 2012. Didn’t fulfil potential at The Open, but better than that and could drive his way to success this week.

Zach Johnson can’t be ignored for your golf betting this week, as he is one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour are the moment. Johnson is a double winner on the PGA Tour this season, including a recent triumph at the John Deere Classic. He has landed six top tens in 18 events this season, missing only one cut along the way. Put in a top ten finish at the British Open and his the PGA leader in Stroke Gained Putting. That will be put to test on the lightning quick greens of Firestone and this will be his ninth attempt at the course, finishing T6 last season. Carrying the kind of form to challenge.

Rickie Fowler took a slice of second place here last season and he led the entire field in putting last year. So he knows his way around the course and he needs a good performance to ensure a Ryder Cup place. Was carrying some red hot form through May but started slipping off the boil a bit. If he can reach back into his experiences here last season and hit the blistering form that was in back in May where he secured a win at the Well Fargo Championship, then he has every chance of making a run for the title. Either way he should make a good top ten finish contender at worst.

A couple of other names of note, whose games are just hovering around the marks which could mean that they will play their way into the top ten, will be Matt Kuchar, who has two top twenties in his last two starts at Firestone, and Bubba Watson who is leading the PGA in green hit and greens in regulation from the fairway.

Best Outside Bet
Rory McIlroy. What? We are talking about Rory McIlroy as an outside chance? Yes. This is because he hasn’t been playing to his high standards for the last couple of months. He looks as if he is still working things out in his head and not playing supremely confidently or smoothly. So he is worth an outside shot here and is a handy price. McIlroy hasn’t been finding greens with any consistency, but has played ever so well at Firestone over the past couple of year. He is now on a run of eight straight rounds of under 70 at Firestone. Can’t ignore that.
