Even the the EFL has ratified the decision to end the League 1 season early and decide the final table on a points-per-game basis, there is still a lot of ill-feeling with regard with some of the clubs who feel hard done by.
Chief among them are Peterborough United, who were in the top six when fixtures were halted in March but have lost out on the play-offs due to having played a game more than Wycombe Wanderers, who have leap-frogged several clubs thanks to PPG.

You can certainly have some sympathy with Posh and other clubs who will miss out on the chance of promotion to the Championship, including Sunderland, Doncaster and Gillingham. But Ipswich’s attempt to subverse the totting-up process smacked of desperation – there are going to be a lot of clubs under severe financial pressure when next season starts, whenever that might be.
Coventry City and Rotherham United gain automatic promotion while Tranmere Rovers, Southend United and Bolton Wanderers are relegated to League 2.

League 1 Play-Off Contenders

Portsmouth lost out in the semi-final stage of the League 1 play-offs last year but are no strangers to the big occasion.
Pompey have reached the final of the EFL Trophy in the last two seasons and would relish another trip to Wembley.
Kenny Jackett’s squad is arguably the strongest on paper among the four semi-finalists with a host of attacking options including Ellis Harrison, John Marquis and Brett Pitman.
But they don’t often keep a clean sheet and don’t appear to have a favourable semi-final draw. The lack of atmosphere at an empty Fratton Park certainly won’t aid their cause and there is better value then at the general 2/1 on offer given Pompey’s playing staff appears to have suffered more than most from the pandemic.
Fleetwood are as big an enigma as their manager Joey Barton.
Barton is due to stand trial on assault charges so how much longer he’ll be in charge at Highbury is anybody’s guess.
The club is funded by a benefactor by unusual methods and that allows the club to spend well above its income and fan base but the Covid-19 pandemic could have serious repercussions in the months ahead if they don’t achieve their aim of promotion.
Ched Evans has been a driving force for the Cod Army, alongside Paddy Madden, but they are another team who concede a lot of goals . Fleetwood are best 5/2 with Betvictor to win the play-offs.
Oxford United looked well on course for automatic promotion at the halfway point of the regular season but lost their way around the turn of the year after Karl Robinson tried to draft in new blood.
They’d gone back to basics just before play was halted in March and had won five matches in a row so look a threat to all if they can recapture that momentum.
Alongside champions Coventry, most people regarded them as the best footballing side in League 1 this season and the 11/4 with Betvictor is the most tempting quote.
The Chairboys have enjoyed a season way beyond expectations, even if they have rather sneaked into the play-offs via the back door.
You can be sure that Gareth Ainsworth will have instilled the underdog mentality in his players and they’ve ground out results this season that they had no right to achieve.
On their form just before the break, however, they would have been very lucky to stake a place in the top six and they often don’t come to life until their talisman Adebayo Akinfenwa is given his customary half-hour. Any team which shackles the muscle-bound veteran will fancy their chances of getting a result against Wanderers, who are 5/1 with Bet365.

League 1 Play-Off Prediction

OXFORD UNITED against Portsmouth looks the key semi-final as the winners will be strong favourites to win at Wembley.
United are probably more of a tight unit than Pompey so can edge the two-legged tie and go on to success against most probably Fleetwood Town.
