League One Tips & Odds – 8th December 2018

League One took a break last weekend because of the FA Cup and so it will be interesting to see who resumes in strong form. In the last round of matches, each of the top four all took a victory to keep that competitive race going. At the other end of the table, each of the bottom four all lost.

It’s another enthralling round of League One matches. Here are our League One Tips and Predictions for Saturday, December 8th and these are all 3.00 pm kickoffs.

Accrington v Sunderland

Accrington are searching for some positive league form at the moment. After being so difficult to beat over roughly the first third of the season, things have become a little difficult for them. They are just D2 L4 in their last six league outings and they haven’t been without their struggles at home. Accrington have lost their last two home fixtures, going winless in three at the Crown Ground. Sunderland pick up where they left off in second place and with an eleven match unbeaten streak behind them in the division. The Black Cats have scored in all of their league outings this season and they are unbeaten in six away games, winning four of their last five on the road.

This is a good time for Sunderland to be going to the Crown Ground. It looks a prime opportunity to jump on the value of an away win at 6/4 odds* (betting odd taken on December 7th, 2018 at 5:54 pm)

Plymouth v Bradford

We can’t look past this fascinating basement battle. Bradford are bottom of the pile on goal difference, having had their mini-revival snapped in a heavy loss at Luton last time out. The Bantams have lost seven of their nine road games this season and have won one point only from their last four road games. Plymouth are not faring a great deal better as they are only two points better off than Saturday’s opponents. The Pilgrims have though won two of their last three at Home Park. Those victories were against sides currently above them in the table as well. Three of their four wins for the entire season have happened in their last six games.

Plymouth have at least shown something of a winning touch this season and we have to lean on that to back the home win at 11/8 odds* (betting odd taken on December 7th, 2018 at 5:23 pm).

Portsmouth v Southend

Pompey return to action at the top of the table with a three-match winning streak going. They are unbeaten in their last seven league outings as well now and will be looking to further press home some advantage on home soil. They have only suffered the one loss the entire season and have given up less than a goal per game on average on home soil. Southend are down in fourteenth and they breathed a sigh of relief last time out. They took a win over Scunthorpe to snap a four-match losing streak that they were on. Southend have still lost five of their last seven though, including their last three on the road. The Shrimpers have actually lost all eight games against sides currently in the top-nine.

Southend haven’t delivered against better sides this season and with the power of Pompey, we have to lean on the home win at 7/10 odds* (betting odd taken on December 7th, 2018 at 5:23 pm).

Peterborough v Oxford

Peterborough are a top-four side in League One and with an unbeaten three-match streak of form behind them at home. Interestingly in their last two games at home, they have faced the bottom two. They played out only a 1-1 draw with Bradford and then just edged Wimbledon by 1-0 scoreline. It’s not perhaps been the most impressive of returns from them. Still, they have played ten games this season against sides in the bottom half of the table currently and have won nine of them (D1). Oxford have been going through something of a revival since early October. They have lost only one of their last nine league games now, but their away form makes for some poor reading still. They haven’t won away this term and have gone D4 L1 in their last five games on the road.

We will predict that the Posh aren’t going let this opportunity on home soil pass them by. It should be a home win by we are going to go with a Peterborough to win by a 1 goal margin option* (betting odd taken on December 7th, 2018 at 5:23 pm).

Wycombe v Barnsley

Wycombe are on a four-match unbeaten streak of form in the league and have been in pretty strong form since early October. After winning just one of their opening eleven games, they are W6 D1 L2 in their last nine. They have really come to life at Adams Park where they have strung together a five-match winning streak, scoring at least two goals in four of those five games. Barnsley are a top-five side and have had a successful season but all four of the defeated which they have suffered this season have been away from home. They have actually lost three of their last four on the road and that is a red flag really. The Tykes actually have a great defence and that has been one of their overall strengths this season. But Wycombe are running hot a the moment.

Wycombe to bank the home win is the right option for us at 16/5 odds* (betting odd taken on December 7th, 2018 at 5:23 pm). Yes, they are underdogs on home soil, but we can’t look past the recent away slips Barnsley have had.
