They closed out the regular season in fine style as they won 5 of their last 6.
The Shrimpers had a chance of automatic promotion on the final day. They were denied by Bolton winning their final game.
So it was a strong fourth-place finish for Morecambe, who finished 5 points clear of the rest of those in the playoffs.
Morecambe won 23 regular-season league games, which was three more than anyone else heading to the playoffs.
They also finished the season as the third-highest scorers in the division. They have a big chance of moving up if they handle the pressure.
Newport
Final Standings: 5th, 73 pts
The Exiles have been a solid unit all season and put in a strong, consistent end-of-season run together.
Newport are unbeaten in their last five games (W3 D2) and are just going to be hard to knock down.
They had an excellent season on home turf and in their last home game of the regular season beat eventual champions Cheltenham.
Newport head to the playoff semi finals and they do so having taken the best goal difference of the four teams from the regular season.
Forest Green
Final Standings: 6th, 73 pts
Forest Green really held their nerve at the end of the season to win their final two games of the campaign.
There was a tight scrap to make it to the playoffs, with several teams involved right down to the wire.
Forest Green pulled through with an important win at home over Tranmere (who are also going to the playoffs) before winning at Oldham.
The Gloucestershire carry through some good form with them to the League Two playoffs, where they will go up against Newport in the semi finals.
Tranmere
Final Standings: 7th 73 pts
Even though Tranmere couldn’t win any of their last two games of the season (D1 L1) they got across the line.
That was through a point on the final day of the season against Colchester and other results going their way.
So it was a tight squeeze at the finish. But they are in it and they finished the season with the exact same record as Newport and Forest Green of W20 D13 L13.
But they have a tough draw in the League Two Playoffs as they have to face the in-form favourites, Morecambe, in the playoffs.
With Tranmere winning only two of their last six games of the season, it’s debatable as to whether or not they are in good enough form to win out.

Tranmere v Morecambe
Tranmere definitely got the toughest playoff draw that they could have received. They take on the in-form Morecambe.
But Tranmere are 11/8 to win the first leg at home on Thursday* (odds recorded at 01:53 GMT on May 17th, 2021 at bet365).
Tranmere finished the season with a W11 D5 L7 record at home in League Two.
They are undefeated in six on home turf, keeping a clean sheet in each of their last three there. Home and away Tranmere have taken 5 clean sheets in their last 7.
Morecambe claimed a 1-0 win at Tranmere earlier this season but lost at home against them.
But The Shrimpers go to the League Two Playoffs as the big form team with a W5 L1 record in their last six.
The loss in that sequence was against Bolton, who just beat them to the final automatic promotion spot.

One slight question mark over their chances will be their lack of form against the other top seven this season.
