League Two Tips & Odds – 15th December 2018

Each of the current top five in League Two all took wins last weekend. So which of them will be able to keep up momentum? It is the MK Dons who still the lead the way at the top of the pile with a two-point advantage over Lincoln. At the bottom of the table, Macclesfield’s mini-revival came crashing down last weekend in a defeat which leaves them a massive seven points from safety.

Here we once again focus on the 3.00 pm kick offs for our League Two predictions on Saturday, December 15th, 2018

Cambridge v Yeovil

Three losses in four games for the U’s (D1) and problems are mounting up. After a long season of struggles, they looked to be on the right track for survival when they posted three straight wins. But that good work has come undone lately. They are on a two-match losing streak heading back into action, not having scored in their last two. Cambridge are on the hunt for just three fourth home win of the season and to their credit, they are W2 D1 in their last three at home. Yeovil are worse off on a four-match losing streak at the moment and one win in eight only. The Glovers are just the two points above Cambridge so this is a massive three points up for grabs. Will Yeovil get sucked into bigger relegation issues or can they put a bit of distance between themselves and bottom three?

We are going with the home form of Cambridge to continue in a big survival scrap. Big pressure on both of these in this one but Cambridge at 21/20 gets the nod for us* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2018 at 8:29 pm)

Exeter v Crewe

The Grecians are favourites at St James Park on the weekend to land themselves three points. What that says about Crewe is a different matter because Exeter are winless in eight games now (D4 L4). They have taken just the one point from their last three on home soil, so the Railwaymen should be turning up with nothing to fear really. Exeter lost their last home game against bottom side Macclesfield. So why after that, would Exeter be favourites? Because the Railwaymen have been so poor away from home with a W1 D2 L7 record having been produced. That’s why. They have scored just the three goals in total on their travels and have lost their last two on the road without having scored. Their home form is basically keeping them afloat and that’s it.

It could be a good chance for Exeter to get themselves going again. But we are simply looking under 2.5 goals at 4/5 as something of a banker here* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2018 at 8:29 pm)

Newport v MK Dons

A tasty top-six clash coming from South Wales. Newport had extra work to do in midweek as they had an FA Cup replay against Wrexham, which the Exiles won easily. Turning their attention back to league form, they are shaping up well at home. Well, they have been all season with a W7 D2 L1 run at Rodney Parade behind them. They have won their last two at home as well. There is enough about the Welsh club to trouble the MK Dons. The MK Dons have taken a great W6 D1 L1 record in their last six games and have won three of their last four. Each of those wins were at home though. They have won just one of their last three away from home and in their last four away games against current top-eleven sides, the MK Dons are just D2 L2.

A chance to oppose the MK Dons here as Newport are a very good home side. As long as they have no midweek hangover, they can deliver a win as 14/5 underdogs* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2018 at 8:29 pm)

Northampton v Stevenage

Northampton took a 1-0 away win at Crawley last week to keep themselves in the middle of the table. They deserve a bit of credit though as they have lost just one of their last seven games (W4 D2 L1). So that’s a huge positive and the Cobblers have won two of their last three at Sixfields as well. They are unbeaten in six home games at the moment. So there’s every chance that they are going to give Stevenage a run for their money. Stevenage have lost their last two away games actually in tough visits to Swindon and Bury. They have only taken three away wins all season and all of those were against sides 13th or lower currently in the division. Stevenage have scored at least two goals in four of their last six league games, but can their defence hold up well enough to avoid defeat?

We like the look of a straight home win popping up in this one especially as Northampton are poised at nice even money value* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2018 at 8:29 pm)

Oldham v Bury

Oldham can be pleased with their recent output. They haven’t been beaten in their last five league games now, winning two. They are unbeaten in three at home as well so that’s a positive for them (W2 D1) but it’s worth taking a closer look. All four of Oldham’s home wins this season at Boundary Park have been against sides currently 16th or lower in the table. So they have struggled against the better sides in the division. Bury are one of those such sides. The Shakers have lost only one of their last dozen league games and have gone W4 D1 in their last five games so they are running hot. They may only have the one away clean sheet this season, but they look the more likely of the two get maximum points out of this game.

Oldham haven’t delivered against the better sides and because of that alone, Bury are value to consider at 13/10 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2018 at 8:29 pm)
