League Two Tips & Odds – 8th December 2018

After the thrills and spills of the FA Cup last weekend, it’s back down to league business for League Two sides. The promotion push resumes with the MK Dons holding top spot but only by a narrow margin over Lincoln. At the other end of the table, bottom side Macclesfield were showing signs of revival, but will momentum have been lost with the FA Cup distraction?

Here are League Two predictions and tips for Saturday, December 8th, 2018 all in the 3.00 pm kick offs.

Bury v Exeter

A tasty looking top seven clash is going down at Gigg Lane as the Shakers look to make the most of home advantage. They are W3 D1 in their last four games and in each of those they returned at least two goals. So the scoring form has been there and they are W6 D3 L1 on home soil this season in the league. So that’s all adding up well. Actually, Bury has scored exactly four goals in three of their last four home games. So can Exeter expect a comfortable afternoon? No, they haven’t won in their last seven league games (D4 L3) and so it’s hard to expect them to produce much. They haven’t scored freely on the road and Bury have a superb home defence.

It is the home win for the Shakers all the way and we can see them blanking their opponents. Bury to win to nil is at 6/4 odds* (betting odds taken on December 7th, 2018 at 7:12 pm)

MK Dons v Carlisle

The MK Dons took a win at home over Morecambe in their last league fixture. So they are top of the pile by two points over Lincoln, but the Imps do have a game in hand over them. The MK Dons have the best defensive record in the entire division, having conceded just 13 goals in their 20 league fixtures. They are on a five-match winning streak at home as well and have only conceded four home goals all term. Carlisle have been struggling for wins since mid-October, having collected just two of them in their last eight games. That having been said, Forest Green are the only side in League Two with a better away record than they have. So will that balance out as they make the trip to the Stadium MK?

Carlisle are a better side on the road than they are at home, but still, it has to be the MK Dons for us. Their form is hot at home and are 4/7 for another home win* (betting odds taken on December 7th, 2018 at 7:12 pm)

Stevenage v Lincoln

Stevenage have won three of their last five games (L2) and have landed back to back successes. They have been fine at home this season in terms of form, having gone W6 D2 L2 at the Lamex Stadium. Their most recent home success was a notable one as well because it was a victory over current league leaders MK Dons. Stevenage have taken home wins over two of the current top three this season. Lincoln are the other one of the current top three so can Stevenage topple them too? Lincoln haven’t been in winning touch recently with a W1 D4 L1 record in their last six league games. They are W1 D1 L2 in their last four road games. Their most notable away game ended in a 1-0 loss at Colchester who are currently sat in third.

This is not an easy game for either of them. Stevenage have produced at home against the better side and a home win is at 10/3 odds-against* (betting odds taken on December 7th, 2018 at 7:12 pm)

Colchester v Macclesfield

Third-placed Colchester are unbeaten in five home games so will be looking to improve that on the weekend as they take on bottom side Macclesfield. The U’s have scored in all ten of their home games this season in putting up an impressive W7 D1 L2 record. They have only conceded the seven goals at home this season but still, 60% of their home fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals. So they have scoring power. Macclesfield put together back to back wins just before the break for the FA Cup, just two of three wins this season. Their one away win happened against Exeter who are currently seventh. Still, with a W1 D1 L8 record on their travels, they have a long way to go to turn the corner.

It’s a Colchester home win all the way for us really. There’s nothing else to lean on an Colchester to win to nil is at 6/4 odds* (betting odds taken on December 7th, 2018 at 7:12 pm)

Cheltenham v Grimsby

Cheltenham were unbeaten in three before losing at in-form Bury just before the break for the FA Cup. The Robins are still in a huge scrap for survival but their home form has been improving. They are W1 D2 L1 in their last four. They have struggled for goals all season have the Robins with just seven produced on home soil. The Robins have Grimsby in their sights on the weekend and a win for Cheltenham would put them to within two points of the Mariners. Grimsby are W2 D1 in their last three, having done some improving themselves lately. But then when you look at it, the bulk of their returns have been on home soil and the Mariners have lost three of their last four road games. Grimsby have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six league games.

A good chance for the Robins to make the most of home advantage. This should be a really tight game but we are going with the home advantage at 6/5 odds against* (betting odds taken on December 7th, 2018 at 7:12 pm)
