Lille News and Form – Galtier’s troops to kick on from last season?
Lille had a campaign to remember last season, winning 22 of their 38 matches to finish in second spot. Meanwhile, the club drew nine and lost seven of the other 16. Galtier’s troops scored 68 and shipped just 33. In fact, no side in France’s top division conceded fewer.
Lille were very strong at home, as they won 13, drew four and lost just twice at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. After falling to a shock 1-0 defeat to Monaco in mid-March, the Great Danes won their last four home matches, including a stunning 5-1 victory over champions PSG in April.
Lille were also strong away from home, securing nine wins, drawing five times and suffering just five defeats. Only PSG picked up more away points (38) than their 32. After hosting Nantes on Sunday, Lille make the trip to Amiens, a place where they won 3-2 last season.

Nantes News and Form – Tough start for Gourcuff?
Nantes were poor travellers in Ligue 1 last season, losing over half of their 19 away league matches. However, they did manage to pick up wins at Strasbourg, Amiens, Caen and Marseille. They were unbeaten in their last three on the road, drawing two and winning one.
Nantes fared much better at the Stade de la Beaujoire last term, claiming nine wins and accumulating 31 points. However, they did lose home and away to Lille. Overall, the Canaries won 13, drew nine and lost 16 to seal 48 league points. Strangely, they also scored 48 and conceded 48.
Vahid Halilhodzic left Nantes last week to take over the Morocco national team. Christian Gourcuff was brought in just a few days ago, so the much-travelled coach has not had long to settle into his new surroundings in Nantes. Will that have an impact on their performance this weekend?
Nantes will be hoping to finish higher than 12th this season, but it will be very interesting to see if the club can move forward following Halilhodzic’s recent departure. The Canaries will no doubt take a draw in this one.
