Lille vs Amiens Betting Tips – French League Cup, 8th January 20.05pm

Christophe Galtier’s Lille entertain Luka Elsner’s Amiens at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in a French League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night. The Great Danes, who reached the final of this competition back in 2016, are the strong favourites to progress through to the last four. Amiens, who are fighting for their lives in Ligue 1, could be in for a tough night in Lille. Will the home team be too strong for the strugglers on Wednesday?

Lille News and Form – Hosts to ease into the last four?

Christophe Galtier’s Lille have been in decent nick of late, winning six of their last eight across all competitions. After ending 2019 with a disappointing 5-1 league loss at Monaco, Galtier’s men started the new decade with an away win at Raon-lEtape in the cup last time out.

In the previous round of the Coupe de la Ligue, the Great Danes eased to a 3-0 win over Monaco at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Victor Osimhen’s goal sent them on their way, with Loic Remy bagging a brace.

Lille had a season to remember last year, finishing runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, picking up an impressive 75 points along the way. Galtier’s side are doing just fine at the moment, as they are in fourth spot with 31 points to their name.

Lille almost picked up the Coupe de la Ligue trophy back in 2016, narrowly losing to giants PSG in a thrilling final in Saint-Denis. Can the class of 2020 go one better this time around?

Amiens News and Form – Can the Unicorns cause an upset in Lille?

Amiens finished in 15th place in Ligue 1 last season, just surviving in the end. The club from Hauts-de-France are in another relegation battle this time, as Luka Elsner’s side are down in a lowly 17th spot with just 17 points to their name.

Amiens have booked their place in the last eight of this competition by securing back-to-back 3-2 home wins over Angers and Rennes. In the Round of 16, the Unicorns edged a tight matchup against Rennes, with Thomas Monconduit’s last-gasp goal doing the business.

Staying in France’s top tier will be the priority, but Amiens have a great chance of going far in this season’s League Cup. Can the Unicorns – who were Coupe de France runners-up in 2001 – cause an upset in Lille in midweek?

Lille vs Amiens Predictions

Lille win: Amiens have picked up only four Ligue 1 wins this term, although one of those did come against Lille back in August. However, they have scored freely in the League Cup, putting three past both Angers and Rennes.

Lille have won their last three on home turf, shipping just one goal in the process. Galtier’s team are a tough nut to crack at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy these days, with only Chelsea and Ajax (both in the UEFA Champions League) winning on their patch this season.

Amiens will no doubt have a go, but Lille should get the job done. Check out bet365’s tempting odds of 13/10 for the home team to be winning at half time and full time on Wednesday. There’s also good value in 3/1 for Lille to win and both teams to score.
