Lincoln City v Everton Betting Tips – EFL Cup, 28th August 19.45pm

EFL League One side Lincoln City welcome Premier League Everton to Sincil Bank in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Last season’s EFL League Two champions have made a decent start to life in the third tier, although the Imps have lost their last two. As for the Toffees, they were beaten by Aston Villa last Friday night. Marco Silva’s men head to Lincolnshire as the strong favourites, but can Danny Cowley’s troops cause an almighty cup upset?

Lincoln City News and Form – Can the Imps cause a huge upset on home soil?

Lincoln City started their season with four wins on the spin. After gaining promotion to League One by winning the League Two title last year, the Imps kicked off with successive wins over Accrington Stanley, Rotherham United and Southend United, scoring nine and conceding none.

However, they go into Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie having lost their last two league games. City were beaten 2-1 by MK Dons last Tuesday, which they followed up with a 2-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers at the weekend. Lincoln sit in seventh place in the League One table on nine points.

In the first round of the Carabao Cup, Cowley’s team stunned EFL Championship side Huddersfield Town. Despite the Terriers, who were a Premier League outfit last term, being at home, Harry Anderson’s 55th-minute goal won the game for Lincoln at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Imps fans have been riding on the crest of a wave in recent years. Not so long ago, Lincoln were a National League outfit, now the League Two champions face Everton in the second round of the League Cup. Can they follow up their first-round win with another cup scalp on Wednesday?

Everton News and Form – Will the Toffees go far this year?

Not only will Everton want to break into Europe in the Premier League, the Toffees faithful will be hoping for a good run in the EFL Cup this term. Last season, the Merseyside club were knocked out at the second hurdle by Southampton.

Everton have had a mixed bag of results at the start of this season, winning one, drawing one and losing one so far. After kicking off their campaign with a decent 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the Toffees picked up a 1-0 win over Watford at Goodison Park, with Bernard’s early goal doing the business.

Last time out, though, Everton were toothless in attack in a 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Aston Villa. The Villans were worthy winners in that one, with goals either side of half time by Wesley and Jack Grealish giving Dean Smith’s boys a deserved 2-0 win at Villa Park.

Having lost to Villa in their last outing, Silva’s side will be desperate to return to winning ways in the cup in midweek. After travelling to Lincoln, Everton welcome Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lincoln City v Everton Predictions

Everton win: Lincoln City have been very hard to beat on their own patch over the past year or so. In fact, Colchester United are the only team to have won at Sincil Bank – on the final day of the League Two season last term – in any competition since last September. After shocking Huddersfield in the previous round, City will fancy their chances in this one. However, I think Everton will be too strong. Back the visitors to win -1 at 13/10.

When these two met in the third round of the FA Cup back in January, Everton raced into a two-goal lead after just 14 minutes at Goodison Park. I can see the Premier League outfit opening the scoring in this one too. Put your money on the Toffees to score first at Sincil Bank at 4/11.
