Liverpool v Maribor Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 1st November 7.45pm

Liverpool rolled out a massive 7-0 victory over Maribor a fortnight ago in the UEFA Champions League and that was a much needed win for them. The qualification scrap in Group E is pretty intense with both Spartak Moscow and Sevilla in the picture and there are no permutations where anyone can book a top two spot in the group on Match Day Four. Liverpool will be expected to comfortable on home soil against the Slovenians.

Liverpool v Maribor Betting Tips

One thing Liverpool can’t do on Wednesday night in the Champions League is book a qualification spot. But they are likely to take a step closer to doing so as they play host to Maribor. Liverpool have just a W1 D2 record from their three games so far in the group and that lone victory happened on match day three when they posted a 7-0 win in Slovenia against Maribor. You would expect, on the back of that, for Liverpool to beat Maribor back at Anfield as well. The Reds are a quote of 4/9 at bet365 to win to nil in this one as well and that’s an indicator of how easy this should be for them. Liverpool are level on five points with Spartak Moscow and will have tougher games to come than this one. Their only previous home fixture against Slovenian opposition came in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup first round when they beat NK Olimpija Ljubljana 3-0 at Anfield.

In the bet365 correct score market, a Liverpool 3-0 option is a price of 11/2 which has good appeal. It cropped up again on the weekend as well because that is the scoreline by which they beat Huddersfield at Anfield in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah continues to look a danger in front of goal and is a good 8/15 anytime goalscorer option while the joint market leaders in the bet365 first goalscorer market are Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge at 3/1. Before they played out that 2-2 draw with Sevilla on match day one, the Reds were on a six match winning streak at home in Europe. They are still unbeaten in their last 11 European home matches now (W7 D4) since a loss against Real Madrid back in October 2014. More than anything this is a chance to grow some confidence, because Liverpool have taken just three wins in their last 11 games in all competitions and before beating Huddersfield on the weekend, had drawn three in a row at Anfield.

Maribor needs something of a miracle then to keep in touch in the group. Should they lose again against Liverpool and Spartak Moscow win their game on the night, then the Slovenians won’t be able to qualify. Given what happened in the first game against the Reds, it’s not too likely that they will pull off a shock on their visit to Anfield. Maribor have lost three of their last seven European away games now (W2 D2) and have only ever won one previous UEFA Champions League group stage match, which was on their debut back in September 1999. They are D2 L4 on the road since then. They have now played nine previous matches against English opposition and have won just one of them, and on their most recent visit to England they were stuffed 6-0 by Chelsea in the 2014/15 group stage. Maribor’s overall record against English clubs is W1 D2 L6. After getting hammered 3-0 by Sevilla in the group already as well as taking that big hit against Liverpool, they are probably going to be out of the picture at the end of this game.

Liverpool v Maribor Predictions

Liverpool to win: This should be a bit of canter for Liverpool after the demolition job that they produced over the Slovenians away from home. The Reds have no need to bust a gut in this one and it probably won’t get up to the kind of scoreline that it was in the first meeting and a Liverpool 3-0 correct score has some tempting appeal.
