Liverpool News and Form – Will Reds continue strong form against Newcastle?

Liverpool will make it five wins from five at the start of the new season with a victory at home over Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime. They will be looking to keep the pressure up on Manchester City by bagging three more points at Anfield. So far on home soil, they have taken convincing wins over Norwich and Arsenal, totalling seven goals in those games. Liverpool didn’t manage a clean sheet in either though.

There has been the trend of Liverpool leading at half time and full time in each of their last seven Premier League matches now. With their two home wins this season, it is now 40 matches undefeated at Anfield for Liverpool in the Premier League. They have netted at least two goals in each of their last thirteen on home turf as well. Against Newcastle, the Reds have scored at least two goals in all but one of thirteen as well.

All of Liverpool’s league outings for this campaign have made it above 2.5 goals. Looking into that a little more, two-thirds of their goals this season have been produced in the first half of fixtures. All but two of their seven home goals have come in the first 45 minutes. The Reds are yet to concede a single goal in the opening half of a Premier League fixture this season. That brings that HT/FT market fully back into focus again.

Newcastle News and Form – Can Newcastle survive a trip to Anfield?

Newcastle suffered back to back defeats at the start of the new season. There was immediate pressure on new boss Steve Bruce. But they mounted a bit of recovery just before the international break as they picked up four points from two games. Three of those were in a shock victory away at Spurs, before backing it up with a point at St James’ Park against Watford. So those points eased the tension as they try and find some consistency. This is a mighty tough game for them now though.

There are still injury problems around for Newcastle, including waiting for the likes of Dwight Gayle, DeAndre Yedlin and Allan Saint-Maximin to get back into action. They do have the terrible form at Anfield with 11 defeats in their last 13 trips there. That win at Spurs out of nowhere will no doubt have done their self-belief the power of good. The shock success happened after they had lost 3-1 against Norwich in their first away game of the campaign. Only one of Newcastle’s four league games this season have gone over 2.5 goals. They are going to need a massive defensive effort to keep the score down in this one.

Liverpool v Newcastle Predictions

Liverpool to win: There should be very little to trip Liverpool up in this one. They should have more than enough to drive themselves to a comfortable win. They are likely to blank the Magpies too who haven’t
shown a lot of attacking prowess yet this season.
