Liverpool News and Form

Last season’s league runners up Liverpool faced up to Manchester City in the Community Shield on the weekend, losing in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. At least that was a really good workout for them though. The Reds had the better of the second half. Last season Liverpool finished just a point back of Man City in the EPL title race.

Liverpool only suffered one loss in the entire 2018/19 Premier League season and were unbeaten on home soil throughout, posting a W17 D2 record. They averaged just under three goals per home fixture too and in their home campaign, they conceded just ten goals (0.53 per fixture). Even with all that it still wasn’t enough to get that elusive EPL title.

Liverpool won their final seven home games of last season, netting in each of their last fifteen there. Liverpool hit at least two goals in each of their last seven on home soil. The Reds were also a strong first half team as they were leading at the half time break in 13 of their 19 home games last season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men banked a clean sheet in 63% of league home games last term. They didn’t drop any points against anyone who finished tenth or lower. Liverpool have scored exactly five goals in four of their last six games against Norwich on top of all that. With the threatening attack of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the home fans will be demanding goals.

  • The Canaries lost just twice away from home in the Championship last season

Norwich News and Form

The Canaries had a tremendous season in the Championship last term. They were the title winners, but early in the season, it didn’t look as if they were going to be up there. Norwich won just one of their opening six games of the campaign (D2 L3). They didn’t win any of their first three road games.

But after that slow start, it all clicked for them and there was just no looking back from the Carrow Road crew. They ended the season on a fourteen match undefeated streak of form, winning ten of those. They posted an impressive W12 D9 L2 overall away record last season in the second tier.

Norwich didn’t lose any of their last seven away games of the season, scoring in each of their last thirteen. But then this is a step up to the top level which is never an easy thing to pull off. Norwich haven’t gone big in the transfer market. They have got a new keeper, Ralf Harmann on loan however.

Sam Byram from West Ham for £750k and striker Josip Drmic on a free from Borussia Monchengladbach also joins. That’s about it. Will they be able to survive? That of course, in the long run, is the main target, but Norwich are 11/8 second-favourites to suffer relegation this season* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 5th, 2019 at 5:40 p.m.)

Liverpool v Norwich Predictions

Liverpool to win: It is hard to predict anything other than a good home win happening in this one. Liverpool won’t want to let this chance of three points slip through their fingers. The workout on the weekend against Man City will have served them well. It doesn’t even seem much of a stretch to predict that the home side will get at least three goals on the board. Liverpool -2.5 Asian Handicap.
