Liverpool V Young Boys Europa League
While the Premier League season may not be going as well as planned for new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, there are some good omens ahead of Thursday’s opening Europa League fixture. Liverpool head to Berne to face Young Boys, with a 40 year unbeaten run against Swiss sides. This will be the first meeting between these two clubs though.

Liverpool v Young Boys Europa League Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bet365:
Liverpool 11/8, Young Boys 2/1, Draw 9/4

Verdict:
A match you would expect Liverpool to be able to negotiate without too much troubles, but they have troubles of their own. The Reds are without a win so far in the new Premier League season, and boss Brendan Rodgers saw his side have to work hard to get an equaliser against Sunderland on the weekend. Young Boys are eight games into their new domestic season and are sat in the middle of the table. So Liverpool shouldn’t have too much to worry about. They really need to find a solution to their lack of goalscoring though, as they have only netted three times in their four Premier League matches. This is a potential banana skin, but the Reds are probably worth backing to get a narrow result in a Liverpool One Goal Winning Margin for a price of 3/1 with online bookmaker Bet365.

Stat Attack:
Liverpool’s record against Swiss sides is W5 D2 L1
Liverpool’s record in Switzerland is W2 D1 L1
Young Boys have won eight, drawn two and lost one of their last 11 European matches
This is Liverpool’s 100th UEFA Cup match

Liverpool v Young Boys Betting Preview:
So Brendan Rodgers will be a little nervous about this one, as his side aren’t in the greatest form. They had to grind out a point at Sunderland on the weekend, and they have had nervy matches in Europe already. They narrowly beat Slovakian side Gomel 1-0 away from home, then the same scoreline saw them win at Hearts in Edinburgh. They were then pushed hard by the Scots back at Anfield in a 1-1 draw, which just saw Liverpool edge through on aggregate. So it hasn’t been convincing stuff from the Reds, and granted the boss hasn’t put out his strongest sides, but it will be important for the Premier League side to get off to a good start because there are tougher challenges to come in the group from Italian side Udinese and Russian Anzhi Makhachkala. Liverpool contested their first Europa League campaign in 2010/11 and only made it to the round of sixteen. The Reds are currently unbeaten in five European games.

The Swiss outfit have only met English opposition once before and that was in the 2010/11 Champions League play-offs. That was against Spurs and just a warning to Liverpool, they beat the Premier League side 3-2 in Berne before crumbling totally back in England in the return leg. The Young Boys reached the round of 32 in their only previous Europa League campaign back in 2010/11. They were on a ten match unbeaten streak in Europe until they lost against FC Midtylland in the play-offs, but they had done enough away from home to progress though. An average record in the league this season, they could give Liverpool at tough time, but will just be underdogs.
