Los Angeles v San Jose Earthquakes Betting Tips – MLS, 22nd August 02.30am

Californian rivals Los Angeles and San Jose Earthquakes lock horns in a tasty MLS fixture at the Banc of California Stadium in midweek. LA have been superb at home this season, so it’s no surprise to see Bob Bradley’s men as the strong favourites in this clash. However, San Jose are a decent outfit under Matias Almeyda, and the Earthquakes will no doubt play their part in this California derby. However, will the home team be too strong for the Goonies?

Los Angeles News and Form – Bradley’s boys to claim yet another home win?

Los Angeles sit top of the Western Conference in Major League Soccer having won 18 of 25 fixtures up until now. The Black and Gold have been terrific this season, collecting a whopping 58 points along the way. Before this week’s clash with San Jose, LA are 16 points clear at the summit.

Los Angeles have been exceptional at home this term. The club have dropped just two points, winning ten and drawing one at the Banc of California Stadium. Since being held to a 0-0 draw by Chicago Fire back in early May, LA have won successive home league games against FC Dallas, Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps, Atlanta United and New York Red Bulls.

Bradley’s troops fell to a shock 3-2 defeat to rivals LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park a month back. Since then, however, Los Angeles have won four in a row. Last time out, goals from Carlos Vela and Adama Diomande gave them a 2-0 win at Real Salt Lake.

Los Angeles are certainly the team to beat in Major League Soccer at the moment. However, we can see them making it five league wins on the bounce in midweek.

Los Angeles v San Jose Earthquakes Head to Head

Back in March, a Vela hat-trick and goals from Steven Beitashour and Diego Rossi gave Los Angeles a thumping 5-0 win at San Jose

LA also beat the Earthquakes 3-1 in the US Open Cup in June

The Quakes have lost all four league and cup meetings

Last season, LA won home and away, scoring six and shipping three

Key-Facts – Los Angeles v San Jose Earthquakes

  • Los Angeles are 16 points clear at the top of the Western table
  • San Jose are 20 points behind in sixth
  • LA have won ten and drawn one of 11 home league matches this season

San Jose Earthquakes News and Form – Can the Quakes make the short trip home with a positive result?

San Jose Earthquakes travel to the Banc of California Stadium having lost their last two MLS games. In fact, since winning four on the spin in July, the Quakes have taken just one point from a possible nine.

San Jose followed up a 2-1 loss at Colorado Rapids with another 2-1 defeat on the road last Sunday. Even though Chris Wondolowki’s 25th-minute goal gave them the lead in Kansas, Almeyda’s men went on to lose 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park.

On the whole, the Goonies have blown hot and cold this season. However, they have won six of their last ten in MLS, losing only three of those along the way. Their form away from the Avaya Stadium has been patchy, as they have won three, drawn three and lost six of 12 away games.

San Jose would love to pick up a positive result at the home of their rivals in midweek. Unfortunately for them, I can see them leaving the Banc of California Stadium pointless.

Los Angeles v San Jose Earthquakes Predictions

Los Angeles win: San Jose Earthquakes have a miserable record in this fixture. When they last met in the league, Los Angeles put on a five-star show in an emphatic 5-0 win at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose. I can see Bradley’s boys keeping another clean sheet in this one, so put some money on the home team to win to nil at 9/4.

Mexico international Carlos Vela has had a stunning season so far in MLS. The 30-year-old, who netted a treble in the 5-0 win in San Jose in March, has scored a staggering 24 goals in 24 league appearances this term. You can get the tempting odds of 3/1 for Vela to score in another Los Angeles win in midweek.
