Malmo v Chelsea Preview

Malmo were underdogs to qualify from their group in the Europa League. But they pulled off an upset thanks to a win over Besiktas in the final round of matches to move above the Turkish side into second place. No Swedish side has yet to make it to the round of sixteen in the competition. Their most famous match against an English opponent was the 1979 European Champions Clubs’ Cup final against Nottingham Forest which they lost 1-0.

They have only ever produced one win again an English side before. After losing their opening match in this season’s group stage, Malmo went unbeaten in their following five. They are currently unbeaten in their last eight European home games, drawing six of those. They haven’t lost at home in continental action since PSG beat them in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League.

Key-Facts – Malmo v Chelsea

  • Malmo are unbeaten in eight European home games
  • Malmo have made it here from the first qualifying round
  • Chelsea are W1 D3 in four previous matches against Swedish teams

Chelsea topped their group in the Europa League with relative ease, going unbeaten in their campaign, winning five of their matches. It wasn’t anything special from them, just solid. The Blues won two of their three away games and the two they did get were both by a 1-0 scoreline. This is just their second appearance in the round of 32 in the Europa League.

The last time they were here was in 2012/13 when they went on to win the tournament. The Blues are undefeated in their nine games in the Europa League. They were eight wins on the bounce before their 2-2 draw at Vidi on matchday six. Their last away defeat in Europe happened in the second leg of their 2013 campaign’s quarterfinal at Rubin Kazan. In all competitions, Chelsea are on a four-match losing streak away from home without having scored a goal.

Malmo v Chelsea Predictions

Chelsea to win: You imagine Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri would be out the door if Chelsea were to lose this. We don’t think they will and we can see them getting the win. However, they are dodgy at the back so it’s Chelsea to win & both teams to score at 15/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on February 11th, 2019 at 11:18 p.m.)
